Anyone awake? I’m so poorly and need company.

Isolating at work (small care home) due to a covid case. Just me and two other staff. No one else in or out.

As more people test positive our ten day isolation extends. Currently we’re leaving on the 21st.

I thought I’d dodged it. But I’m really unwell. Aching, sore throat, nauseated, headache.

LFD tests are shit. They say negative but then the PCRs say positive. Waste of time. Also, my colleague is sleeping in the room where the tests are and I don’t want to disturb her.

I’m unwell. I’ve been here since last Saturday. I miss my family. I miss my house. I miss my pets. And if today’s PCR comes back positive it slaps additional days onto my wait to see them again.

Feeling pretty sorry for myself.

How many people are you looking after? There must be a contingency plan? Hope you are ok.

Doublestar · 14/08/2021 01:14

Bloody hell im not surprised! You're basically imprisoned at work? Are they even allowed to do that?

I'm shocked! What would happen if you went home?

adeleh · 14/08/2021 01:15

Oh, you poor thing. That sounds rotten. Let’s hope it’s short-lived xx

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 14/08/2021 01:16

I'm about to go to bed but didn't want to read and run. That sounds really hard on you. Are you expected to keep working if you're properly ill now? Who will look after you? As Trying says there must be a contingency plan. I would at least stay in bed in the morning and say you're not well enough to move, plus you'll be risking further spread. Flowers

I’m awake! (Shouldn’t be, but I am).

Really sorry to hear you are suffering. Do you have paracetamol and access to hot drinks - maybe something herbal with honey in it to soothe your throat?
Sorry that feels like a really weak suggestion when you’re stuck away from home and suffering - I guess what I’m saying is, anything 6 can do to make yourself a bit more comfortable, do it!
Hugs and virtual Cakeand Brew for you

Maria1982 · 14/08/2021 01:17

Anything you can do, not 6 can do….

Lindy2 · 14/08/2021 01:18

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly and away from home.

I had Covid in January so I know a bit how you are feeling. Are you and all the other residents and workers vaccinated? Hopefully you are and the vaccine will help you all recover quicker.

Can you access the kitchen and get hot drinks. A lemsip or something similar should help the sore throat and aches. I found hot baths with Olbas bath oil very soothing too.

I hope you all recover soon and you can go back home.

I volunteered to be here. So did the other two.

These guys are vulnerable and need us. I don’t mind being here for them.

Just bummed by how quickly it’s spreading. Started with one case, within the week it became four cases, plus one of the three staff.

And I’m pretty sure I’m coming down with it. Can’t leave as I don’t want to pass it to my family.

I’m just grumbling and wanted company.

Aw, that's really admirable OP - I really hope you're feeling better soon. You just want your own bed when your ill don't you?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 14/08/2021 01:25

I just want to snuggle up with my cats and drink tea out of my mug.

We have everything we need here, it’s a great place to work. Manager has even given us free reign over the debit card to order takeaways and nice shopping.

But I want to go hooooome.

You shouldn't be working when you symptomsConfused

peridito · 14/08/2021 08:52

Hope you've made it through the night and can get some sleep during the day if you missed out during the night .

You sound very caring Flowers.

Personally I think you should go home, hunker down in a room and isolate as much as you can from family .

I may have misunderstood but if workers have been isolating by staying at work and carrying on then of course the virus will spread .

CharlotteRose90 · 14/08/2021 10:21

You sound lovely but you shouldn’t be working when you are positive and have symptoms. It’s actually pretty selfish and no wonder it’s spreading like wildfire. Get home and isolate in a spare room. My step mums care home is the same and honestly these places need reporting it’s disgusting.
