FFS and it turns out he'd only recently got his gun license reinstated after having it suspended by police

Unfuckingbelievable

Along with reports that his family had asked police to do a welfare check on him due to concerns about his mental health, it looks like opportunities to prevent this appalling outcome were missed Sad

FFS

DelicateFuckingFlower · 13/08/2021 19:55

I fucking knew it would be something like this. Reading the reports earlier I couldn't quite believe he had a gun license at all. I mean what the actual fuck? Reinstated last month FFS.

Personally, I think anyone who has to attend an anger management programme shouldn't be allowed a fire arms licence!

colouringindoors · 13/08/2021 19:58

FFS! This was avoidable?! 6 dead! And one poor, poor woman has lost her DP and Dd only 3 SadSadSad

DelicateFuckingFlower · 13/08/2021 20:00

No of course they shouldn't. And IMO neither should someone who is claiming disability benefits due to autism and mental health problems (and I say that as someone with autistic children and mental health problems of my own before anyone jumps on me, but if you are impaired enough by those conditions to qualify for PIP then no, you shouldn't be allowed a semi automatic shotgun).

But here we are...

AbsolutelyPatsy · 13/08/2021 20:02

i am not sure i agree about the autism being a reason not to have a gun license
autism is a huge spectrum.

butmumineedit · 13/08/2021 20:06

Have just read this report and see that they are stating that the 3yr old was adopted - so somewhere out there , there is a birth mum who might or might not be informed that her child has died. That alone is awful to comprehend.

DelicateFuckingFlower · 13/08/2021 20:08

Yes, which is why I specifically said if you are impaired enough to qualify for PIP , which is pretty damn hard to get! News reports have stated that he claimed PIP and that this caused an argument with his mother. So he was obviously someone with significant support needs.

So he was let have his gun licence back because he'd completed an anger management course? No one who needs to be sent for anger management should be let have a gun. Preventable.

Hekatestorch · 13/08/2021 20:13

I feel sick by this.

I can't understand how he is entitled to a gun license when he was clearly so troubled.

Hekatestorch · 13/08/2021 20:14

I can't actually understand why he had a gun license?

Was it connected to work? A hobby?

NinaBallerinaShoes · 13/08/2021 20:17

We don’t know if the weapon used was legal yet.

Hekatestorch · 13/08/2021 20:20

I am just reading (though it's the daily mail) that the gun was illegal, even with his license.

So (assuming that's true) likely, getting the licencse wouldn't have stopped this.

But clearly the checks, to get the license isn't good enough, regardless.

This 100 percent

I think it’s grim that Sky News are sharing videos that he’s made of his rants. Giving him notoriety and giving incels like him ideas: great stuff Sky News!

Excuse me? Not everyone who gets PIP got ASD has significant support needs. I’m HFA and get PIP.
Sirzy · 13/08/2021 20:40

It certainly needs to be looked at both in terms of this case and with the licences on the whole. We need to make sure something like this can’t happen again

NinaBallerinaShoes · 13/08/2021 21:58

What do you think will stop a person getting hold of an illegal firearm and going on the rampage?

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 13/08/2021 22:04

Don't worry, guys! "Lessons will be learnt". You know, those lessons about how difficult it is to establish that a person with anger management issues shouldn't have a shotgun. No-one could have predicted what would happen, of course; totally out of the blue (sarcasm if wasn't immediately obvious).

And I'd love to know what happened to require him to go on an anger management course in the first place. Violence against a woman (probably his mother) would be my guess.

wheresmymojo · 13/08/2021 22:07

I mean...if we're going to stop people with MH problems or autism having gun licences, can I suggest we stop men having gun licences?

The amount of discrimination is roughly the same but at least it would actually be successful.

lannistunut · 13/08/2021 22:10

Anger management course Angry

Rainbowqueeen · 13/08/2021 22:12

@wheresmymojo you are probably correct. And that’s really sad.

Owning a gun is a privilege that carries huge responsibility and you should have to jump through hoops to be entitled to own one and also to keep it

Not just Sky. Front page of Telegraph website. Appalling.
