Do occupational therapists use fob watches?

Just that my dd is going off to do a occupational therapy course in September. I want to get her a small token that is useful to her. I know many healthcare professionals wear fob watches but not sure about OTs.

Some do, some don’t! It’s a lovely gift either way

I’m an OT and I use one.

Get her a tape measure too, very handy gift for an OT.

I thought it was a hygiene thing that nurses had them, as if they frequently wash their hands they would have to remove a wristwatch to wash properly.

I think it's a good idea especially now we are in the Covid-era and people are (or should be) washing their hands more often.

I'm an OT and I don't (I don't wear uniform though). Tape measure is always useful as an OT! Good luck to your dd, it's a great profession.

My daughter is about to start her third year OT degree. She’s never worn a fob watch but was gifted a tape measure by the staff at the end of her first placement and she was thrilled with it! When she was doing a community placement she used it a lot.

@rbe78 Furniture, doorway and equipment measuring for a start

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 13/08/2021 16:26

@rbe78 Just as @FelicityBeedle said. I work in adult general therapy and use mine on a daily basis to measure things such as the height of chairs/steps. It’s an OT must have.

honeytime · 13/08/2021 16:54

Thanks ladies, is there a specific type of measuring tapes for OTs use? Soft ones or metal ones? How long does the tape needs to be? 10ft, 20ft or 30ft?

I use a soft one. I’m not sure what size I’ve got but even 3m would be fine. She’ll mainly be measuring the height of chairs/beds and (if in the community) steps and doorway widths.

Thanks ladies
