Please can someone explain the alternatives to Sky?

I signed up about 18 years ago when I moved and just plodded on with them. I’m not very confident with technology and stuck with what I know but have reached the point where I need to seriously reduce financial outgoings and the Sky bill is ridiculous. There seem to be so many options and I’m not sure how it all works? I want to be able to still watch my favourite programmes / channels (Sky One, Witness, Atlantic, Watch, Alibi, TLC, Drama, plus the usual BBC, ITV, C4, C5, E4, news and documentaries and the occasional film – not blockbuster/new) Many thanks from an ancient technophobe.

You can get a freesat box that connects to the same wiring as a sky box.
Then a now tv subscription would let you watch sky one etc. You might need a separate stick/box to do it
