I'm so so so so sick of it. Early in the pandemic I saw my mother watch all the covid news and work herself into a panic. She wasn't ever able to follow the basic hygiene and manners etiquette that was asked of us. Early in the pandemic there were ads on campaigns recommending to cover coughs and sneezes and if you don't have a tissue at hand you could use the crook of your arm and cough/sneeze into the crook of your arm. I was coughing and sneezing like that, into the inside of my elbow for years because it made sense to me that way. All throughout the pandemic I witnessed my mother coughing and sneezing into the open without a care in the world for anyone else around her.
Now that life is going back to normal, and there's more mixing happening - I see it happening time and time and time again. Just selfish careless people coughing and sneezing without any attempt to contain any germs that they might have. I was at work yesterday and there was a worker who was painting and doing other jobs. He called me over at the end of his work day and while talking to me he coughed and made no attempt to cover it. It was done right into the open. He didn't even try and turn his head away. Other times I do see people making an attempt and I see people cough into their hands. Coughing into hands is not the answer in case there's any infectious fluids/saliva and it gets passed on to door handles and other shared objects. I was at a funeral and I saw people cough into their hands and shake hands and sympathise with the deceased family.
I remember a few years ago, I asked my sister to cover her cough when she was coughing. I was going through a very hard time with my health at that time. Every cold I caught led into something more like sinus and chest infections and I had several courses of antibiotics over the course of the year. I was so sick of colds and infections. It was a reasonable ask from me but she didn't care.
It's not just covid I am worried about. There's loads of other different types of viruses and other infectious diseases like bacterial infections too. I'm double jabbed against covid. I read there are people still getting ill with covid even after being jabbed.
What gives anyone the right to be so careless and selfish and cough and sneeze into the open without a care for others?
I will tell you one thing. Many people had the stamina to do the right thing within this pandemic for themselves and for others. Other people didn't care. There's been a lot of news lately about global warming and the effects of climate change. Many people will be able to adapt no doubt but many more won't care and humans will fail at tackling global warming. Its so fucking sad.
