Films with women - funny and teary

I've got the TV to myself, I don't have work tomorrow and I have a glass or two of wine.

Hit me with the best female cast/leads which are funny but tear-jerking (like Steel Magnolias)?

Stepmom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon is a tear jerker and a good movie but not sure it would tick funny, Baby Boom - old school but I still watch it now, A lot like Love with Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher, these are off the top of my head and not sure if teary and or funny but I like them!!

Suffragette I also love and have watched again and again, female orientated but not funny I don't think but I do cry. Promising Young Woman is an outstanding film, I'll be quiet nowGrin

Promising Young Woman is terrific

Erm

In Her Shoes is good, Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz

Beaches

Ok one more - Julie and Julia is great although always makes me ravenous but it doesn't take much!

SusielouP · 12/08/2021 18:30

Ok last two - Wild with Reece Witherspoon and Philomena is a fantastic film

Good question!

Becoming a God in central Florida on Netflix with Kirsten Dunst is really good but is a series. Also recently loved ‘never have I ever’, another series about a teenage girl. Maybe not what you’re after but hopefully this will bump your post and others will have recommendations! Enjoy your evening 🍷

LemonDrizzles · 12/08/2021 18:45

Two female movies are
High heels and low lifes
And
Birds of prey.
But neither are tear jerker...

Blastandbollocks · 12/08/2021 19:01

Ooh, not heard of some of these so will have a look. Keep them coming please!

The Banger Sisters. Goldie Hawk and Susan Sarandon. It’s just fabulous.

Wine Country is good

FairyAnn · 12/08/2021 19:13

Shirley Valentine (free on YouTube)
Thelma and Louise
Priscilla Queen of the Desert 😁

Blastandbollocks · 12/08/2021 20:35

Well, I'm slightly devastated. The wine is off. Like majorly Envy making off.

Still, I'm starting Wine Country as if I can't drink it, I can watch it!

Noooo too sad!
Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 12/08/2021 21:22

Philomena made me bawl my eyes out.

If you want funny then First Wives Club!

Pinkywoo · 12/08/2021 21:37

Boys on the side, I've not seen it for years but still remember crying and laughing a lot, it's Whoopi Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Mary-Louise Parker.

A League of Their Own

I don't tend to do tear jerkers but second Stepmom and Thelma and Louise. I normally like just comedy especially with Diane Keaton or Sandra Bullock. Because I said so (with Diane Keaton) was a lovely film. I bought the DVD for my mum who loved it. Basically she is the mum of some daughters and tries to interfere with their love lives. Loved the bit where she asked her daughters what an orgasm is like. Bit sad really , that bit!

Hope Floats. Love it.
