£31 for two bags of fudge?! 😲

I was at a seaside festival with dd yesterday, and looked round the food stalls before we left. There was a pick & mix fudge stall, you fill your own bags and get them weighed.

I picked a small selection for dd & I for the journey home, and a slightly bigger one for my parents, as we're seeing them tonight.

Lovely fudge - salted caramel, candyfloss, oreo, every flavour you could imagine, but I couldn't believe it when asked for £31!! Paid it, wasn't allowed to put any back, so we'll make it last! 😋

It’s probably hand made with top of the range products.

Even 'top of the range' fudge is mostly butter and sugar.

Wtf???
Like the time I went to buy two very ordinary birthday cards in WH Smith when it was lockdown and all card shops were shut

£8-20 😡
I put them back and home bargains, who had a much better selection I hasten to add, got my money instead

I thought of this thread earlier when I saw a fudge stall at an event. I gave it a wide berth.

I passed by an 'award winning artisan bread' stall this afternoon. Was tempted but then reminded myself that a) I didn't really need bread and it would probably to stale before I'd eaten it and b) I could likely get something almost as good in Lidl for a fraction of the price.

Spaking of Lidl, just got some great butter fudge there. Decent sized box for not much more than a quid. Just trying to resist eating the lot due to all the sugar!

woodhill · 15/08/2021 20:13

Yes, there was an artisan fair near us today but DH wouldn't stop.

We were in Oxford this weekend the castle had small bags for sale £4.25 ,about a pound more than we paid in Devon.

sleepyhoglet · 16/08/2021 20:36

OK, where can I get decent fudge, online. I need it now!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 16/08/2021 21:35

This is exactly why I struggle a little with ‘supporting local businesses’ - I’m happy to do it but SO many take the piss with the prices then moan when people go to M&S for products that are actually just as tasty

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 16/08/2021 21:35

@sleepyhoglet the Toffee Shop in Cumbria is AMAZING and they deliver

DreamTheMoors · 22/10/2021 02:27

Did they show it to you on a little square of black velvet? 😂😂😂

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/10/2021 02:56

I have to be careful with money so i give these stalls a wide berth aswell...its a horrible feeling being ripped off.
As i've got older im more likely to speak up and i think i would have said sorry but no way am i paying that...put it back and walked off.

Wisteriabloom · 22/10/2021 08:50

Myusername - I wish I could have done that! When I questioned the price '£31''? 😲 the lady looked at me as if I was a bit dim and said 'Yes, THIRTY-ONE POUNDS'. There was a queue behind me, so I reluctantly paid and left. I'll avoid these stalls in future though, no matter how tempting they look!!
