Grandad gift

My FIL is always at the end of a phone if I need anything. I have a toddler, an 8 month old and currently pregnant so he’s always there to give me a break when I have no sleep or babysit for midwives appointments.
He will be 73 at the end of the month, he’s old fashioned but quite tech savvy. He’s a keen gardener, doesn’t particularly drink very often. Bit fussy with food as he has IBS.
What can I get him from my children as a birthday/thank you gift? I looked at those wellie paintings with the names but would rather wait until this one is born so it’s “finished” if that makes sense.
He’d love something sentimental, £50 budget but could go more for the right thing.
Any help would be appreciated because I’m in a rabbit hole on Etsy at the minute Smile

I recently bought a rose called ‘special grandad’ for my DC to give my dad. He was absolutely thrilled and it has pride of place in his garden.

@merryhouse- I've never seen a paper potter before. Brilliant! I just use old toilet rolls Blush

  • does he need new secateurs, loppers, trimmer etc?
  • a pruning book/gardening book with lovely inscription at the front from you
  • annual subscription to gardeners world or other gardening magazine
  • Does he cook? A good chopping or fish knife?
  • Nice, wooden chopping board or fruit bowl

If he needs any gardening tools than either that or a gift card of a store he can get something he needs. Maybe some unusual plants that he doesn't have or fun stuff like a bonsai tree kit. A slideshow of his and grandkids' photos with voiceover telling him how much you all love and appreciate him would be nice, too, you can record your Los saying something and add this to the vid as well. Here is a guide on making a video of this kind- smartshow-software.com/how-to-make-your-own-slideshow.php and you can burn it to dvd or just send to him via e-mail.

Our grandkids got DH a T-shirt with "if grandad can't fix it no one can" on it.
It's his favourite.

Thanks everyone, love the rose bush idea with the garden tools.
I’m looking at the paper potter for myself Grin
