DVLA wait times for name change on licence?

Just sent my marriage certificate of to change name on driving licence.

Wondering how long it will take to come back with my new licence As I don't have any ID in my married name and I could do with it!

Given all the dvla horror stories at the moment I'm a bit worried!

Not a name change but I renewed my photocard online the other week and my new photcard arrived in a few days.

gg96cgp · 11/08/2021 15:14

Took about 4 weeks for mine when I did it at the end of May.

lavenderandwisteria · 11/08/2021 15:15

I’m still waiting for a change of address Sad

I sent it off 4 weeks ago.

Thank everyone. I will just hope it comes back sooner rather than later!

DH had to send his away for a new driving job he's starting. It's been over 2 months and still nothing which has meant he's not been able to start the job yet. It took 4 weeks before they even emailed him to say they'd received it and they said they were doing everything in the order it arrived.

I got married on 20 May and sent my licence and marriage certificate off a couple of weeks later…..I’m still waiting for it to come back! It’s been 10 weeks now! I then received a letter yesterday from the DVLA reminding me to renew my licence as it has expired! Worried now that they haven’t even started dealing with my change of name!

cherrypiepie · 11/08/2021 18:53

Oh no @BlooBagoo @Cliffordthebigreddog

That awful for you both. Especially @BlooBagoo not being able to start a job.

I hope they don't lose my certificate as I got married overseas and only have one copy.

It took ten weeks exactly (May-August) for me to get my marriage and birth certificate back for updating my photo - couldn't do it online as passport was in maiden name. I found this link useful and the dates on there accurate- but yes, ten weeks for me. Hope yours is faster! www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-coronavirus-covid-19-update

cherrypiepie · 11/08/2021 19:08

@ZoChan 10 weeks ShockI'm super stressed they will lose it or I will need it but also stressed I get stopped with it in the wrong name.

That link is super helpful thank you!

Thanks so much for that link Zo. That's been a good help for us and looks like another couple of weeks for us at least.

He sent it away on 4th June, got the email to say they'd received it on 5th July and I'm guessing it's the vocational licence one which says they're up to 21st June so hopefully we're almost there. I'll make sure to get him to help with everything I need him to do around the house in the next fortnight then. Grin

And thanks Cherry. It's honestly felt like the longest wait ever and I can't wait for him to start. We've tried to cut back on expenses as much as possible but since he's not earning we've blown through the little savings we had and had to borrow a lot from my parents so the day his first paycheque arrives we'll definitely be taking them out for a nice meal to thank them and sort out paying them back as soon as we can too.

TheatricalGiraffe · 11/08/2021 19:37

When I did my change of address I did it on the Monday, had it back on the Wednesday of the same week..so what 3 days

cherrypiepie · 11/08/2021 19:41

@BlooBagoo oh no that is really awful for you I hope it gets to you soon 💐

@TheatricalGiraffe did you do it online? I think that system is pretty much all automated (total guess there).

I also think it quicker if you don't have to send documents or pay. I had to send original marriage certificate and needed a new photo and a postal order as barely ever used cheque book in maiden name still.

My renewal has just come back after 11 weeks. The ID gets sent back after that so you are in for a long wait.

cherrypiepie · 11/08/2021 19:44

@PheasantsNest oh wow! I shall forget about it until much later then!

PheasantsNest · 11/08/2021 19:46

@Cliffordthebigreddog you can check this link to see if they have issued you a new licence. www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence Your driver number should be the same just the first 5 letters will be your new name.

Cliffordthebigreddog · 11/08/2021 20:26

@PheasantsNest thanks so much! Just checked and it’s still in my old name and says it’s was issued in 2016 so they’ve obviously not processed it yet Confused I might try ringing them…..wish me luck!!!!

PheasantsNest · 11/08/2021 20:35

@Cliffordthebigreddog Good luck. I redialled 30 times and eventually got through. They just cut you off if the queue is full. The chat is useless too.

MrsWarleggan · 11/08/2021 20:37

I work on local government dealing with licences. We've been told current guesstimate is around 14 weeks.

They are on their knees at the moment through covid/workloads/strikes about covid.

Misspacorabanne · 26/11/2021 10:05

@cherrypiepie did you get your licence through? I'm still waiting for a change of name on mine, it's been ten weeks now!
