DBS check, how long do the take and suitable documents?

Have been asked to complete a DBS check for a new job. How long are they taking to arrive at the moment?

Also, I was reading the required documents and apparently you need proof of current address. As I live with my partners family currently, I am not on any utility bills but am registered on the electoral roll at their house. I have a letter confirming this from the council. Would this be suitable as proof of current address?

had to do this for my partner, as he lives in my house he isn't on any of the bills etc. Pretty sure we used his driving licence and bank statements as proof of address.

I also used a bank statement as proof of address, mine came through really quickly in about a week or less earlier this year. I did the online application. You may have to check with them about what you can use as proof of address.

Is your driving license at the address you’re living in? Use that

Bigcheese5838084 · 11/08/2021 14:09

My driving licence isn't but I'll update my address on my bank statement and use. this. Thank you!

I've just had one come back within 3 weeks. Filled it in in the last few days of term and it arrived at some point last week while I was away.

ChicChaos · 11/08/2021 16:42

If your driving licence address and the bank statement don't match, will that be an issue? I would check that first tbh.

Bigcheese5838084 · 11/08/2021 17:02

@ChicChaos I think I should be okay using a bank statement instead of a driving licence as the statement has my address on it, and I have a passport too so I think these two together should be okay (or at least from what I've gathered from the replies/reading the government website)

DBS requires three documents. Passport is great, bank statement (dated within the last three months and not a downloaded document, it much be via post) plus one other document - birth certificate etc. All documents should have the current address on them.

I had one a few weeks ago, was back in a few days

DreamBelieveAchievex · 11/08/2021 17:14

I think it depends on your local police station in some circumstances. I've just had one completed and mine was stuck on Stage 4 for 62 days! Unfortunately you can't start the escalation until after 60. Every time I have had one completed it normally takes 40-60 days for Stage 4.....I've added myself to the DBS update service now in hope I don't have to go through anymore anytime soon even with a job change!

trevthecat · 11/08/2021 17:16

@dreams mine was for new job, had a portal DBS, they still wanted a new one! Makes no sense

AlCalavicci · 11/08/2021 17:17

You should also be able to use credit card statements.

IME the less convictions you have the quicker you get it back , mine took just under 2 weeks , my work mates took over two months due to him been a dick as a youth

Bigcheese5838084 · 11/08/2021 17:18

@AlCalavicci I don't have any convictions so that is reassuring

Mine has taken 4 working days.
We are in Norfolk, but I am conviction free.
AFAIK, they all come out of Liverpool
