Confused about advice from GP

So, I have what I think is sinusitis atm. Ive done 3 lateral flow tests and they've all been negative. Its been lingering for 3 weeks, so I made an appointment with my GP to see if theres anything else going on. During the appointment I was told that I need to book a PCR test and self isolate immediately, and to call back when I have my negative result. She wouldnt discuss anything else. This isnt right is it?

Im a practice nurse myself and im really confused. This isnt how we treat patients at our practice.

I think it sounds a bit strange. I can understand them wanting you to do a PCR test if you have any symptoms that could be Covid, but to simply not discuss anything else sounds wrong. How long was the call?

The call was about 5mins

My sister had 2 negative lateral flow tests as she was isolating from work. She had a pcr test and it was positive. She wasn't happy with that because of the negative lft and was told to have another pcr test which was also positive and had to isolate for longer. She still thinks she only had a cold Hmm

I thought lateral flow didn’t really
Count for symptomatic patients- ie if you’re experiencing a loss of smell? So maybe that’s why the PCR is being requested? It’s all v weird though isn’t it? As if no other condition exists except covid. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I havent got a loss of smell/taste. The only symptom would be a cough I think. This isnt about if it is/isnt COVID, ill do a PCR to see. Im more annoyed about a total lack of consideration for anything else. As if all other respiratory illnesses have gone away.
