Carpets smell of wee

My son's carpets smell of wee! I don't know why. I have used the vanish powder on them but the smell comes back. Please give me some advice about how I can get the smell out as his room stinks

Has he actually weed on them at some point? If so it will have soaked into the underlay -&possibly floorboards-so vanish powder on top of the carpet won’t get through to the underlay to neutralise any smell.
You may have to sniff all over the carpet to find the actual spot and then pull back the carpet to that area to clean underneath.

He says he hasn't weed on them. He's not here at the moment and they still stink

Do you have a pet that could have weed on them?

I scrubbed with white vinegar and a bit of fairy
Then sprinkled bicarb soda on overnight
Open windows
Neutrogena do a good carpet spray which I used once started to dry
Remember whilst wet will continue to stink
Once it seemed to be gone I used 1001 carpet freshener to make sure for few days

Pet urine cleaner spray - must have enzymes - it will state that somewhere on the bottle. Brilliant for any organic smells - wee, vomit, sour milk etc etc

Thank you @CailleachBan @BakewellGin1

He very best odour eater is cat litter. Place several trays / containers of it in the room and change every couple of days for at least a week. You could even spread it directly on the carpet I suppose.

Someone or something has been weeing - it can be very very difficult to get rid of the smell of the floorboards have been penetrated. How old is he?

SleeplessinEastSussex · 11/08/2021 06:19

@idontlikealdi He's nearly 11
