Is it normal for a verruca to bleed when you cut it?

I have a verruca on my right foot that I’ve had for a few years. Doesn’t bother me much, I’ve had others in the past and they’ve always gone on their own eventually. But night I decided to use a scalable and cut the skin off the top rather than filing it down. Big mistake. I can honestly say I have never seen so much blood in all my life it absolutely pumped out everywhere, it didn’t hurt at all, But the blood! It was like I’d cut and artery or something. It was like a massacre! It bled for over an hour and I bled through almost an entire toilet roll. I even thought I’d have to go A&E at one point. It only stopped when I applied firm pressure with a thick piece of cotton wool and fastened it tightly with tape. When I removed it this morning it then started bleeding again but suddenly clotted and stopped.

Is this normal? The amount of blood was off the scale. I really can’t even begin to describe how much there was it. The whole sole of my foot was bright red at one point!

Yes, basically those ‘black dots’ that you see in a verrucae are actually blood vessels. By picking at it with the scalpel, it’s burst them causing them to bleed. In doing this, it will ‘shock’ your immune system into thinking that your verrucae shouldn’t really be there. It might even completely disappear on its own eventually - sadly I’ve never had that success with mine!

I always assumed the dots were roots. Had no idea they were blood vessels! That would explain the blood. My god there was so much of it!

Any time you cut yourself apply pressure and elevate the bleeding part of you. If it's dental sit down quietly and bite on some gauze. Most healthy people will clot if they don't charge about tidying up and panicking
