DP and I are going to Scotland for a week in September (no kids). Sleeper train from London to Inverness, 3 nights there, then 3 nights in Glasgow. Really keen to hear suggestions and recommendations of great things to do. We enjoy:
-walking

  • visiting galleries
  • whisky tasting
  • mooching
  • bit of light shopping

Would also be grateful for restaurant recommendations for both places - any cuisine, mid price rather than fine dining, grown up rather than family friendly

Thanks!

@BashfulClam Oops, I'm sorry.

For Inverness The kitchen Brasserie is very nice. As is The mustard seed. And I love visiting the Ness Islands.

For Glasgow I like The ox and finch, The two fat ladies (city centre) and lychee oriental. Chaophraya is a lovely Thai in an amazing old building. Macintosh at the Willow is good for a cuppa and to enjoy the Macintosh design. Kelvingrove art gallery is great for a look around. The transport museum has a lot of interesting information about the history of Glasgow but be warned there will be lots of kids around!!

Glasgow mooching about- the hidden Lane Finnieston followed by dinner & cocktails at the Finnieston bar & the kelvingrove cafe. Late night bar, Oran mor in Byres road, ashton lane for cocktails

Yes to Ashton Lane for fun, also check out The Bon Accord on North Street (in Glasgow) for whisky!

@scottishnames wow I wish I'd know that before we went. The weather wasn't good when we went and they'd stayed well away anyway as it was stormy so we didn't see any.

For really nice Vietnamese try Hanoi bike shop. Cute little place tucked down an alley, relaxed atmosphere, not far from kelvinside.

Mother India for Indian food has a good reputation

For a snack and something sweet Loop and scoop on the great western round do lovely churos (crispy outside fluffy inside) with nutella/biscoff/chocolate dips.

Definitely Lychee Chinese restaurant. The food was beautiful and the service flawless. In fact we received great service everywhere in Glasgow.

Inverness - cafe 1, mustard seed, the kitchen, la tortilla asesina (my favourite!). The malt room is lovely for some drinks with knowledgeable staff. Macgregors and the black isle brewery are also excellent bars/places to eat Smile
