Babysitting rates for 14 year old?

My daughter will be doing some babysitting over the holidays for a few friends of ours, knows the mums and children well and will be within 10 mins of her dads house. She’s 14 and going into year 10 next month.

She’s asked what she should ask for and I had no idea, it’s been years since I’ve used babysitters! Anyone else have teens who do this and happy to share what they charge please?

Do people still do this with teenagers? I think 14 is a bit young to be in sole charge of children - especially young ones - for hours, especially if they don't have first aid training, does she? It's a big responsibility.

I did it myself (in the late 90s) but I honestly had no idea it was still a thing and honestly other than calling 999 I wouldn't have had a clue what to do in an emergency.

In the late £90s the going rate was £4/5 an hour I believe, I was well paid Grin

I pay 21 year old qualified nursery nurse £10/hour. At 14, I'd say maybe £5/hour is reasonable? What is the minimum wage if they get a job at that age?

I don't think there is a minimum wage for 14 - I think it kicks in at 16 but the next nearest is £4.62 for under 18. I'd be suggesting that.

Thanks, no she doesn’t have first aid training to be fair but I think calling 999 is what the majority of parents/caters would have to do in an emergency and she’s able to do that. Her dad is v close and can be on standby if needed.
Kids are around the 4-8 age range so not babies, probably more likely to piss about snd play up but she’ll just have to cope with that!

£5 an hour sounds reasonable, thanks
