Would you buy a (children’s) kindle for an 8 year old?

I’m starting to plan for the dreaded C word Christmas and one thing I’m thinking of, is a kindle for dd.

She will be 8 (9 in March) and adores reading. Goes through so many books and is always on the look out for more.

I have an Amazon subscription which means she could download a lot of free books but also buy new books quicker.

So would you give an 8 year old a kindle or stay with conventional books?

Yes I would get a kindle. Good for holidays etc. I think I'd get the paperwhite though- not sure they do that in a kids' version.

We got one for our 8 year old ds - it's a kobo one though as the library app works with it and that's our main source of e-books. He uses it quite a bit but seems to prefer a real book, it's good for travelling and also for getting books that aren't available in the library as paper copies though.

Absolutely!
I know it was a different era but I absolutely lived and breathed books at that age and had there been a device I could have them all on I'd have been in heaven.

If she's a sensible child I'd go with the paper white though. Also look into using a third party management client like Calibre. It means you can download her free comics, books and documents and then convert them and send them to the standalone email address that kindles have.

Ah fantastic. Thank you

I’ll add it to the Christmas list
