What's your favourite ready-made pizza? 🍕

DH is currently on holidays (teacher) and I'm working, so he is doing a lot of the dinners at the moment. Since his cooking is, err, limited, at least one meal a week tends to be pizza chucked in the oven and some salad alongside. We don't have any "regular" (tbh, tends to be whichever is 2-for-1, on special or whatever) but the DC are constantly saying "that one we had last week / on Monday / in April was waaaaay nicer".

So, has anyone got any recommendations? I'm sure someone's going to disapprove of feeding DC pizza but I don't think once a week hurts. No vegan/wholewheat/cauliflower options since DH the kids won't eat!

The Crosta & Mollica one that @Geluksvogel mentioned is my favourite. It's the base with tomato smeared on and you just add mozzarella and whatever topping you fancy. They're so much nicer than any plain base I have tried (even without the sauce) but the sauce is just so convenient (you don't need to waste most of a carton or bottle of passata). And it's a great way to have your favourite toppings or even just use up stuff in the fridge.

Tesco Finest Garlic King Prawn pizza. It's quite often sold out though.

It's really not that difficult to make your own. Save ten pounds a shot at least for a family.

If you have a kitchen processor throw ingredients in. Wait and do somehting else.

Fresh ingredients on top.

Once you get the hang of it way quicker than ordering...

I get that it would save money, but I'm not sure about £10 a shot! They don't have one each.

I totally agree, and often I do (mostly recently last Saturday), but on a Friday night when DH is driving back from wherever he’s been that week, I’m exhausted from the week and trying to finished off loose ends, and I’ve got 2 hungry preteens that need feeding before going to different activities, in different villages, the last thing I want to do is make dough.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/08/2021 23:29

The ones I posted are £7 for two, and they are pretty big.
Also, if I'm having pizza its because I want a shove in the oven dinner, I don't need or want to save money on those eveningsHmm

thesunwillout · 09/08/2021 23:38

The Tesco own Marguerita stuffed crust frozen is really good.

Very traditional base. £2

FlatteredFool · 10/08/2021 00:28

We've been making our own for about 18 months now and the odd time I've bought one from a shop or a take away it's been a disappointment. I put batches of dough, portions of homemade pizza sauce, and bags of mozzarella in the freezer for times when I haven't time to wait for dough to rise. We have pizza once a week most weeks and it has to be homemade otherwise I'm the worlds worst mother apparently. And god forbid if there's no homemade chips with it.

Do you also make your own basil to go on top? 🤔Grin

@FlatteredFool
Good for you, but that's not what the thread is about.

Costco one in the rectangular box. We have to cut it in half before cooking as it won't fit in the oven. They are all delicious but the pepperoni one is so tasty.

Understand totally.

However still if you get into the habit can be quicker than ordering.

I'm amazed at pizza companies offering what they do at inflated prices.

beigebrownblue · 10/08/2021 00:56

No love Mookie81
Basil grows in a pot on the windowsill. I just throw it on top.
Surprisingly enough basil grows on it's own if you water it. Every tried it? Apparently you haven't...

And dried basil from a pizza takeaway company tastes like shit.

Well done it tastes way better anyway.
Jourdain11 · 10/08/2021 00:59

But I'm talking about packaged pizza - not to order.

Goodfellas or Chicago town. Chicago town will probably appeal to kids as they do sugary over the top things like Coca Cola bases Grinbut they do normal ones too.

The ones on the Sainsbury's counter are good too, they do huge ones, and obv you can add more cheese, veg etc. Ah I'm right in the mood for pizza now!

miltonj · 10/08/2021 01:10

Oh also pizza express do a super market pizza snd it's V nice.

Tesco have a mock version of dominoes called the pizza company, it's a good deal, I think you get a big pizza, a side (wedges, garlic bread, etc) and a pudding for a tenner. Kids would love that I reckon.,. And I much cheaper way of doing takeout pizza, if they ever ask for it.

You can tell I have a pizza problem Blush

ISpyCobraKai · 10/08/2021 01:16

@Jourdain11
Always people who have to be superior.
Supermarket pizzas are pretty good these days.

ISpyCobraKai · 10/08/2021 01:18

@miltonj
That Tesco offer is great, I particularly love the dirty fries.

MollyBloomYes · 10/08/2021 01:42

I've just discovered Chicago Town Tiger Crust pizza and my world will never be the same. The dough is like tiger bread. I just get the plain cheese one (and it's properly fully loaded with cheese) and it's delicious. Normally I like loads of toppings but honestly this hits the spot-you could always buy some toppings separately to add in the last few minutes of cooking if you wanted although I have seen other flavours

Oh, that Pizza Co is one of DD's all-time faves! Although we got it at Budgens... I think it must be the same? In a blue and white box, cheese feast or pepperoni, stuffed crust?

Another vote for Crosta & Mollica. As close as you can get to proper woodfired at home without having to make it yourself. We get them frozen from Costco, but I think a few of the supermarkets do them.

Otherwise the posh oval supermarket ones from the fresh section aren't too bad and certainly nicer than a lot of ready made pizza.

MotorwayDiva · 10/08/2021 06:38

Lidl has got a make your own kit at the moment and those are nice. Otherwise morrisons fresh counter pizzas are good

BarbaraofSeville · 10/08/2021 06:49

Supermarket fresh counter pizza is dreadful, nothing like proper pizza at all.

I agree about not making pizza. I do a lot of home cooking and pizza just seems like not worth the effort, I'd much rather have it in a restaurant or get a good frozen one like the aforementioned Crosta and Mollica.
