Has anyone gone to haven that doesn’t drive? I’m looking at haven but they all look far from any beaches or places to go, don’t know if it’s worth it for a non driver? What one would people recommend

There's one in Weymouth that is on a fab bus route.

And one near Poole that is right beside a lovely little beach. I'm sure there's others, but these are ones I've been to personally and would go back to again.

Caister is right on the beach

Foobydoo · 09/08/2021 23:08

A lot of them have buses that come into the site and then go out to the nearby towns. Check the reviews on TripAdvisor and put in buses in the search bar for the sites that you like to check. But the ones on the Yorkshire coast and Presthaven sands definitely do.

Magicstars · 09/08/2021 23:08

The one in Bognor Is walking distance to the beach. We went recently & there was plenty to do onsite, so although we had a car, it wasn’t used all week aside from getting there & back.

The one at Hopton near great Yarmouth is fab, it has its own beach and you can get the bus to Great Yarmouth. I don't drive either, we always get the train to Great Yarmouth station and then taxi to the haven site. It's a lovely site and I would highly recommend it Smile

Hafan y môr in Pwllheli is on a long train route from B'ham into mid wales -about 25+ stops and a change at Dovey junction. Change at pwll for local station Penychain (20 minutes) or tacsi from station (10 mins).

Sirzy · 09/08/2021 23:14

Thornwick bay has a shuttle bus beteeen there and Bridlington

rosy71 · 09/08/2021 23:16

We went to Littlesea in Weymouth and there was a bus into Weymouth from the site.

Hafan y mor has its own station (Penychain) and the railway line goes through the middle of the park.

Agree with the Weymouth recommendations, buses or walk to the beach, or hire bikes - Weymouth bike hire are great and deliver and collect the bikes from the caravans including helmets etc. Devon Cliffs also has the beach on site and js a short taxi ride from Exmouth station. I don't drive and regularly stay at Haven sites with the kids and have a great time.

cheeseychovolate · 09/08/2021 23:25

Weymouth Bay. Bus stop just outside entrance.

shewalkslikerihanna · 09/08/2021 23:30

Hafn y mor was lovely
Yes we had a car but you could walk straight from the site to the beach
I’m sure you’d be able to get a bus to portmadoc
Lovely town and the llyn peninsula is amazing
You can get on the little train to Blaenau Ffestiniog and maybe a bus to snowdonia
Beautiful part of the country

shewalkslikerihanna · 09/08/2021 23:31

I never knew that about the train at hafn
How did we miss it
It’s fabulous

Sweettea1 · 09/08/2021 23:59

We hire a local mini bus works out a little more than public transport (not much and definitelyworth paying the small extra) depending on how many people are going.

StealthRoast · 10/08/2021 00:06

I’ve been going to Pwllheli since I was a kid when it was Butlins, it was where everyone from Liverpool would go on holiday and we always guaranteed to meet someone we knew! I never knew there was a train station there though.

3 years ago we went to the site as it is now as Haven Hafyn Y Mor and it was beautiful. We do drive but didn’t use the car once and there’s loads to do. Another suggestion is Presthaven Sands near Rhyl in North Wales as there’s so much to do in the area that is accessible by good public transport.

My only problem would be not being able to pack everything but the kitchen sink. I don’t travel light Grin

aprilanne · 10/08/2021 00:13

If you are near the north
Berwick upon tweed .the train station ten minute walk from camp .the town the same beach st bottom of camp down hillside steps good place with no car

NoNotMeNoSiree · 10/08/2021 00:15

Depends whereabouts you are?
Primrose Valley and Blue Dolphin have great bus routes and I think are on the Coastliner bus from Leeds, York and Scarborough.
Both lovely sites, have been several times.

xYerDaSellsAvonx · 10/08/2021 00:16

Primrose Valley in Filey. Easy to walk down to but a bugger of a slanted walk back up. Well for me it is. Although I have quit smoking and lost weight since we last stayed so maybe its not a big a struggle these days.

impatientwatcher · 10/08/2021 07:25

Most sites are very near a beach. I would make sure there are decent pubs for food within walking distance off site unless you are happy to cook every meal as the on site pub food is cheap microwaved food but is very expensive.

teenagetantrums · 10/08/2021 07:31

We drive but recently stayed at littlesea Weymouth..the bus comes right into the site and goes to Weymouth beach. It was nice to not have to drive everyday.
