For fun...what tenuous claims to fame do you have via your Facebook friends?

In my Facebook friends I have a friend who has their own IMDB page (for those who don't know IMDB is an online database of information related to films, television programs etc so actors, directors etc) and I have a mutual friend with a 2021 UK Olympian.

Who do you have lurking in your fb friends?

The guy who played Keith in the ‘yes sir, I can boogie’ Cadbury’s advert!

@TooBigForMyBoots their name wouldn't start with a P, would it?

The BBC employee who suggested that the version of God Save The Queen on Newsnight (as suggested by a Tory MP, deploring the lack of respect in the modern era) should be by the Sex Pistols.

I've got a handful of rock musicians as friends on my fb, they added me after I'd written articles about them. They're B listers now - still making a living from music - but back in the day they were quite successful.

I don't have many FB friends as I keep my social media for immediate RL friends and family only, but I keep getting recommendations for "people you may know" for the mother of a rather famous sports star. This is because I work with her partner, who uses her account to check up on the staff.

@SarahAndQuack what about if the person is/was in fact a member of the band House of Lords? That is a pretty good claim to fame. I have a number of friends who have been on TV. I was in an episode of panorama with the orchestra at 6th form. We just had to act like cameras weren't there and have a rehearsal. Someone I knew as a teenager was recently in a relationship with a well known (and sometimes discussed on MN) person. Someone else who I am FB friends with was in a reality TV show. One of the riflemen from Sharpe bought my son breakfast at a historical event, that was years ago now.

I know there's a mixture of FB links and real life stuff there but anyone who is friends with me becomes connected to it all 😬. They are welcome.

drspouse · 10/08/2021 00:50

FB - author (not very famous, but lovely), member of the HoL.
Real life - OBE, MBE (one family, one friend), another Lord (friend's dad), son of VERY famous actor now deceased, London based so I've stayed in his house (but he wasn't there). Friend is the spit of his dad, only much much taller.

3 friends with IMBD pages & one who fucked Angelina Jolie

I'd forgotten one - a FB friend used to work with the dad of Lol Tolhurst from The Cure.

I have two family members and two friends who have their own IMDB pages!

As for social media, I used to be followed by a member of One Direction and have corresponded with an Olympic gold medallist.

Marian Keyes follows me on Twitter!

I am fb friends with two people who are household names in the country I live in. I do actually know them properly and would stop to chat if I met them in the street. We come from the same small place and they are much the same age as me.

Azilliondegrees · 14/08/2021 20:49

A bunch of my FB friends are close with a multi Olympic gold medallist. I’ve met them very briefly and they are lovely but we went to different 6th forms.

Also FB friends with someone who is the granddaughter of a former prime minister (or equivalent) of Malta.

One of the school mums was at uni with Carrie Symonds.

And a fairly prominent electrochemist.

ginislife · 14/08/2021 21:29

FB friends with 2 authors, 1 a very close friend and she's friends with loads of famous authors on her FB. The other is published by my friends company and I love her books. Only time she came to our book club I couldn't go !!
Friends with our local Mp but I don't know him.
I did go to school with Meera Syal though.
A client is about to be on Great British Menu and I'm friends with him on FB and he's been to my house tonight

36degrees · 14/08/2021 21:51

I'm FB friends with an Oscar nominee, two high profile campaigners, an ex-footballer and someone who used to work for MN.

Mutuals include an early Big Brother contestant, an author whose books have been serialised on Netflix, an author who is interviewed on Radio 4 quite a lot, several 90s indie band members, a film director, Guardian journalists, football managers and pundits, someone who worked on the Hadron Collider thing and the sister of a very well-known politician.

GremlinDolphin4 · 14/08/2021 22:10

A fb friend is my cousin who is a very famous (now quite elderly obviously!) tv star from the 1980s. He knows everyone from tv in that era and during Covid we had some social zoom parties with the most incredible line up of people. I didn’t say a word but squeaked with excitement through them!

He found us through genealogy research and is the most fab addition to our family.

marthamydear · 16/08/2021 00:05

WorraLiberty - your post made me really laugh! So random. Bernie Clifton! Is he the man that used to perform with a pet ostrich around his legs?

Surely this has to win! It is hilarious. :)
