Co-Op Irresistible Coffee and Walnut cake random question

Sylvvie · 09/08/2021 16:32

Does anyone know if the Coffee and Walnut cake has walnuts strewn throughout the icing/sponge? Asking on behalf of my pregnancy cravings...

(I don't like walnuts and a "just coffee" cake is apparently really rare!).

I have no idea but I want one now and I'm not even pregnant!!

Saladd0dger · 09/08/2021 16:38

Not sure on co op but Tesco do a coffee cake with no walnuts in.

Parentingdilemmas · 09/08/2021 16:42

Not sure but M&S do a cappuccino flavour Swiss roll - it’s lush x

The M&S one is a bit too sweet for me.

Tesco do an iced coffee cake if that's any use.

I have a Waitrose coffee and caramel cake going stale in the kitchen as I prefer walnuts in mine! Would recommend if you don’t like the nuts though

Elouera · 09/08/2021 19:18

Normally the walnuts are just within the cake part, not within the icing, unless they are obviously as a decoration stuck on the top.

Couldn't you bake your own? I love coffee and cardamon because it reminds me of being somewhere exotic.

theemmadilemma · 09/08/2021 19:39

Coffee and walnut cake often has ground walnuts in the cake.

Sylvvie · 10/08/2021 11:52

Thank you everyone! Sometimes they just have them on top for decoration, and the Coop one has that, but there is a risk they are through the cake too and that can be hit and miss!

I will have to make my own it looks like, but I am shit at making cakes :(

Supermarket cakes are all grim!

Sylvvie · 10/08/2021 11:54

I have bought the Tesco one before and loved it, but the coop is in walking distance and we aren't due a shopping delivery for a couple of weeks .

I agree. I don't think this cake has walnuts in it but aren't 100% sure.

However, that type of cake that all the supermarkets do in their luxury range really are a disappointment, they look quite nice, but taste of not very much except sugar.

I don't understand how anyone can be shit at making cake though and even a slightly wonky home made version is streets ahead of crappy factory cake.

Sylvvie · 10/08/2021 12:10

I agree, supermarket cakes aren't brilliant but my cravings are going crazy right now!

I have tried a few times to make a cake. Never rises, is thick and tough, would need to do 3 to layer it to an actual, normal "cake" size if that makes sense. Icing though, I am pretty good at!

Cant remember as my local co op stopped doing it and I like them anyway.

However if you fancy venturing to a caffe nero their cappuccino cake is amazing! I very rarely eat cake but cannot resist that Grin

If you do try your hand at making your own, Mary Berry's cappuccino cake recipe is very good and super easy,

Betty Crocker is your friend! There's a coffee cake mix and frosting, very easy to make and turn out perfect every time! And you can put the walnuts where you want.....or not! Morrisons usually stock both.

I came on here to say the same. It's so easy to make...you can even use instant coffee and it's delicious.
