Strabismus - double vision/suppression

I have posted about this before on another forum but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or anything similar? Or has any advice?

Im mid 30s and I have strabismus, my left eye turns in and has done since birth and I wear glasses full time with a strong + prescription. The vision out of my left eye is suppressed and I see out of my right eye, but I can 'switch' my vision between eyes when I choose to.

I wanted to look into surgery to straighten my eye and was advised to have the botox procedure in my left eye to test how my brain would manage and to see if I got any double vision. I had the procedure in 2019 and the effects have fully worn off now.

But since then it is like my left eye has been 'switched on' to overpower what I am seeing and my brain is confused, and I am seeing double a lot of the time.

As an example: if I am talking to someone face on and they are standing in front of a wall of pictures. I am looking at their face through my right eye (as this is the eye I always see out of) but my brain will get overpowered and I will start to focus on the pictures behind/to the side of their face, as this is what my left eye is seeing. The image from my left eye (which I am not actively looking out of) becomes stronger than the image from my right eye (which I am looking out of) and my brain can't cope, so I will see a mix of the two images. It's really disorientating so I will have to close my eyes and look away.

As a side note - before I had the botox I developed a 'tick' for a couple of years where I had an urge to keep flicking my vision from my right eye to my left eye and straight back again. Since the botox this tick has disappeared fully, but now the left eye seems to be overpowering my brain. The only way I can describe it is that the 'tick' was my left eye fighting to overpower, and then since the botox it has now fully 'broken through' the barrier which is why I am seeing double.

Has anyone ever experienced anything similar to this or does anyone have any advice on how to resolve it? Thank you.
