18th birthday present for DS1's girlfriend

I'd like to get something nice but not OTT. I don't know what DS, her parents or grandparents will do and I certainly don't want to "outdo" anyone.

I also don't know her very well and DS is no help whatsoever! They've been together 3 months and seem very serious but are out much more than they're in. Which is lovely to see after the year or so all young people have had, but I haven't seen much of her.

She's at college doing a vocational course and seems to be excelling at her studies

I've seen a lovely classic, elegant design, decent brand ballpoint for about £30. I thought I'd put some chocs with it.

I know it's not exciting or personal, but I'm not really aiming for the perfect personal present iyswim. What do you think? It really is very nice to hold Smile

Well, three months isn't long at all so grand gestures are out as you say....I wouldn't buy her a pen though. I think some nice earrings from Etsy or something.

An 18 year old girl won't generally appreciate a good pen. Can you ask your son what sort of perfume she likes or hobbies she does?

Sadly I don’t think a pen is probably right - I might go with a voucher for something she likes? Clothes shop, Amazon, something along those lines so she can choose something herself?

I agree 3 months is not long so definitely no big gestures or keepsakes.

What about a voucher for something she could nod with your DS as a birthday treat - a restaurant chain or a cinema perhaps?

A pen seems quite grown up for an 18 year old! I’d maybe go for some jewellery or a voucher etc.

I agree about the own, that’s more of a corporate gift.

What about a gift from Lush? That seems more age appropriate.

Maybe a nice personalised photo album? I received one for my 16 and my 18 from my Nan and I still love them now Smile

That's a good idea. Or OP....Starbucks voucher and a nice travel cup.
