Does he already have a policy that covers the trip? If so contact that insurer to see if they can extend cover?

What kind of kit? Try googling that term/specific sites for that activity/national body for that activity to see what they recommend.

Can it not be covered on your/his house insurance for out of the home anywhere in the world as an add on?

We have mountain bikes with values that make the average insurance company run for the hills and a previous claim when one of mine got stolen from our house have them insured like that. It costs a bit extra but not massively so, we generally pay around £200 pa for B&C cover including the bikes.

If his/your existing insurer isn't interested, it would be worth cancelling that policy and starting a new one that will provide cover.

We've used M&S, Santander (but we bank with them, not sure if it makes a difference) and Norwich Union for the above.

What kit? Is it for work or leisure? Where will he be staying? Is he really able to go as USA is closed to most at the moment? Your post is to vague for anyone to offer practical help.

He van travel he;s a student and has his visa
Just rang house insurance and YES his kit can be covered on it - even though he is travelling on his own he is still a household member so Ive upped the value slightly and all good.

Thanks for the heads up on this - delighted!!!!!
