My son found a toddler

My 12 year old son went out with his friends around 4.30.

He came home at 6.10, carrying a toddler in just his nappy, already on the phone to the police!
He'd found him wandering around our estate by himself in just a nappy (it's windy and rainy here) He tried to ask him where his mummy or daddy were but the toddler has just grabbed him and clung to his leg, so he's pulled out his phone, dialled 999 then picked up said toddler and brought him home so that he had somewhere warm to wait for the police.

I got a blanket for the little one, and got him warmed up. He was very scared bless him, but receptive to having a cuddle and letting us help him have some water. (My youngest is 6, so no sippy cups)

Police turned up just now with social services and took him with them. Theyre going to try and find his parents and take care of him, have him checked over etc.

The police and the social worker massively praised my son and said he was immensely brave and sensible to do what he did.
He took the officer out and showed him exactly where he had found the toddler and gave as much info as he could about what happened when he found him.

I hope the little one is OK, and glad he's safe with social services now.

I am also immensely proud of my son. He's so amazing. I would have panicked at that age and knocked on the nearest door for help.
Hes just jumped into action straight away and decided to get him warm and safe.

Wow your son did amazingly well. And to be straight on the phone to the police.

Comedycook · 08/08/2021 19:25

Ah what a superstar your ds is.

MiloAndEddie · 08/08/2021 19:25

Wow what a sensible boy you’ve raised OP! I’m not sure even as an adult I’d have handled it as well as him!

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 08/08/2021 19:26

I'm so proud of him. He knew exactly what to do.

Ooh weird!

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2021 19:27

That was a lovely thing he did, you're right to be very proud of him Thanks

My advice would've been for him to stay exactly where he was, incase a panicking parent came racing down the road.

However, if he was only wearing a nappy and your DS didn't have a coat or anything to put round him, he obviously did the right thing.

Hope the poor little thing finds its parents soon.

WorraLiberty he did say to the police he didn't see any adults around so just did the only thing he could think of to get him warm.

I wish this was made up. As if it was there wouldn't be a child who can be no older than 3 cold, scared and with strangers. Unfortunately it's true and there's a little one missing from somewhere he's meant to be safe.

Oh, and OP, that is a lovely story - you should be rightly proud of your son. That's a really brave thing for him to have done, and impressive that he had the presence of mind to do it at such a young age.

This sort of stuff does happen. I don't know what anyone would doubt it. I once found a toddler wandering round a pub car park alone...parents were inside at a party and thought the older cousins were watching him. I had to help him.

Well done for raising your son to be an amazing human being.

accentdusoleil · 08/08/2021 19:35

I can't imagine how stressed and distraught the parents must be

Well done to your son! Saved a life

Laila747 · 08/08/2021 19:35

Lindy2 · 08/08/2021 19:35

Well done to your son. Very sensible and helpful.

AlmostSummer21 · 08/08/2021 19:36

@HerRoyalRisesAgain

Your DS is a credit to you & a very sensible lad!! I think most 12 year olds would have been clueless as to what to do, if they'd even noticed!!

ScrumptiousBears · 08/08/2021 19:36

His happens more often than you'd like to think.

MissyB1 · 08/08/2021 19:36

Good lad very sensible. And actually this isn’t as uncommon as you think unfortunately. They can slip out of the house very quickly, a lot of people don’t lock their doors and toddlers learn how to open them.
