My son found a toddler

My 12 year old son went out with his friends around 4.30.

He came home at 6.10, carrying a toddler in just his nappy, already on the phone to the police!
He'd found him wandering around our estate by himself in just a nappy (it's windy and rainy here) He tried to ask him where his mummy or daddy were but the toddler has just grabbed him and clung to his leg, so he's pulled out his phone, dialled 999 then picked up said toddler and brought him home so that he had somewhere warm to wait for the police.

I got a blanket for the little one, and got him warmed up. He was very scared bless him, but receptive to having a cuddle and letting us help him have some water. (My youngest is 6, so no sippy cups)

Police turned up just now with social services and took him with them. Theyre going to try and find his parents and take care of him, have him checked over etc.

The police and the social worker massively praised my son and said he was immensely brave and sensible to do what he did.
He took the officer out and showed him exactly where he had found the toddler and gave as much info as he could about what happened when he found him.

I hope the little one is OK, and glad he's safe with social services now.

I am also immensely proud of my son. He's so amazing. I would have panicked at that age and knocked on the nearest door for help.
Hes just jumped into action straight away and decided to get him warm and safe.

I have been on both sides- as a 25 year old finding two toddlers walking off to "go shopping". They had cleverly escaped the yard of a multi- occupancy house after a resident left the front door open. I knew the family (was a local baby sitter) and brought them back. Years later my then hardly 2 year old escaped from his older brother's birthday party. We had hired a church but he waited patiently at the huge and heavy front door to nip out when some unsuspecting adult opened the door to get in. My husband luckily noticed within seconds and run after him - at which point he had already reached a pretty busy road. Same son also managed to get lost in a shop when mistaking me for a similar looking lady running after her when she left. Must have been a funny picture- me in beige coat chasing a toddler chasing a lady in a beige coat.
Let's hope this little one is likewise an unlucky escape due to being free spirited rather then neglect.

I did call the police to find out if the girl we found od in an alley turned out OK. I didn't want to know anything about her, but I'd been thinking about it for 24hrs. The policeman said "well she's alive if that's what you mean", which I guess it was.

So I don't think it's odd to check, but I didn't follow up on the lost boy because I assumed they wouldn't tell me anythingConfused

You have brought him well - you should be proud of yourself and your son xx

I found out the hard way that my DS3 - at 2 - could fish my keys out of my bag and unlock the front door. He was halfway down the long path leading to our house from the road, in his pj's before I came out of the loo and saw the door open.
Never moved so fast in my life.
Keys are now WELL out of his reach.
I hope that little one is reunited with his (hopefully loving) family.

@CityCommuter oh no a stranger on the internet called me cold for being realistic about the capacity’s and entitlement to know information the flouts basic safeguarding, what will I do.

Thanks for correcting my grammar, I would hate to be “blaze” about it.
