What are these spots on my child?

DC (2yrs 6m) had these spots appear last night. At first glance we thought it was chicken pox but only a few more have appeared and none of them seem to be blistering or getting larger.

There are a few "pin prick" spots appearing that could potentially be the start of more spots. Looking at them closely they have a little yellow point in the centre.

DC is fine. They don't have a fever, temp, cough or cold. We've had no notifications from nursery of anything going around.

Photos are of rear and front right shoulder and stomach.

Covid can cause skin rashes in children.

It does look like the beginning of chicken pox. It took a couple of days for my DC to go from spots that looked very similar to obvious CP. It was at this point that they also started to feel unwell, had been fine up until then.

DinkyDaisy · 08/08/2021 13:17

Molluscum contagium?

BluebellsGreenbells · 08/08/2021 13:17

I agree, having had 2 go through Molluscum!

DinkyDaisy · 08/08/2021 13:20

My eldest had it badly [infected spots], my youngest less so...

DinkyDaisy · 08/08/2021 13:24

With my youngest used Molludab.
I have to say, yellow middles to some of the molluscum spots...
Spots can look different on different children with Molluscum but easily diagnosed by nurse/gp.

DinkyDaisy · 08/08/2021 13:25

Rapid appearance of spots sounds more like chicken pox. Molluscum, we found, more of a slow burner!

Diagnosemychild · 08/08/2021 13:32

@DinkyDaisy I'm putting her in the bin if it's Molluscum. Do you think she goes in the recycling or general waste.

I'll keep an eye on it but we feel it's heading down the CP route. There is so few pictures of it at an early stage it's hard to get a good comparison

Are they non-blanching? My son spots started out like that when he had HSP. If they're non-blanching it could be that but obviously needs to see a dr to rule out more serious things.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/08/2021 14:46

CP

Diagnosemychild · 08/08/2021 14:50

What's HSP?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/08/2021 14:50

Chicken pox. They don’t blister or burst at first.

Diagnosemychild · 08/08/2021 14:51

Not HSP. They're more raised and red than bruised. I'll keep an eye on it though as I've never heard if that before
