Accommodation for student in Paris

DS’s friend is due to spend a year in Paris from next month. She’s now panicking about accommodation. Where should she look please? She’s keen on living on her own or with one other maximum.

She hasn’t arranged it before now?
Is she going to University or to work?
Does she have a contact in Paris who can help her?
To be honest….I think she’s left it very late land I do hope she finds something suitable.

Besr bet would be to look for a babysitting job with a room attached. American Church or FUSAC magazine or one of the English language Paris FB groups.

There's a great group on Facebook called Expatriates in Paris. She should try asking on there.

If she's at uni there'll be a noticeboard (virtual or real world) with people advertising. Or she can just go to an estate agent in a student area, but will have to pay a fee.

I found mine through FUSAC on the day I arrived when I did a term there (uni no help whatsoever). There were lots of studio flats and same-sex flatshares available. Facebook groups will be a great help, too, wish we'd had that sort of thing in my day.

I had enough cash for a week in a budget hotel if I needed it and the phone number of a friend of a friend who was an au pair there in case of emergency, but didn't need either.

My DD is doing a study abroad year in Paris too, she found accommodation on the site Lodgis, but you can also try Studapart, Pap.fr and LeBonCoin

Tell her to apply for her visa as soon as possible because the process takes a few weeks!

She will need an address and proof of a rental contract in order to apply for her visa. A hotel address with proof of booking may do to start with. DS is also studying in France next year, but only for a term, so he could not find a student rental, because all of the renters ( Studapart etc) were holding out for a tenant to take the accommodation for the whole year. He resorted in the end to getting a place through Morning Croissant, which is a bit like Air B&b .

Options depend on whether the friend is working or studying, and how old they are.
