What is going on with the weather?

Sad

It’s constant grey skies, rain, yet muggy and hot at night.

I never know what to dress ds in, never know what to dress myself in!

Longing for some lovely sunny days, summer dresses and sandals, paddling pools, in august. Is it really too much to ask?

I know. I'm this close to putting the heating on for a bit. The slugs are eating my garden too.

SirYawnsAlot · 08/08/2021 07:34

I know, one day hiding from the sun, next day worrying about flooding. The radiators came on last week it got that chilly. I just want a glass of wine in the garden without being fried, drenched or eaten by mosquitos and horseflies.

Naaaaah · 08/08/2021 07:39

It's torrential rain outside right now. Roads are gonna be flooded. In 49 years, these roads have never flooded. This year is the first time they have. I can hear the drains struggling to cope and it's forecast this all day.

I know, yesterday it was grey skies and down pours and then the sun would come out and it was hot! I was switching between cami top and fleece top, umbrella and sunglasses constantly. If you took a picture of my 10 mins apart it’s look like two completely different days!

alila · 08/08/2021 07:43

This morning it seems like autumn has arrived two months earlier. Overcast, wet and windy.

alila · 08/08/2021 07:43

*early

CovidCorvid · 08/08/2021 07:44

I think it’s going to be a bit drier next week but only about 20-21c which isn’t great for august. 🤷‍♀️

MrsDThomas · 08/08/2021 07:47

Im used to it. Living in Snowdonia its wet and windy a lot of the time. Winter is long.

Oblomov21 · 08/08/2021 07:49

This is supposed to be summer. It's been shit for months. Can only assume it's global warming related.

YanTanTethera123 · 08/08/2021 07:50

But it doesn’t usually start in August! Several people have told me we’re heading for a heatwave, seemed highly unlikely to me! It’s piddling down here, it’s chilly and I am considering putting the heating on despite wearing layers of clothing and socks ☹️ Luckily puppy isn’t pestering for a walk at the moment!
DeathMetalMum · 08/08/2021 07:53

This is normal August weather for the last few years. We will have a few days of dry sunny weather, followed by a few days of heavy rain and repeat.

EllaPaella · 08/08/2021 07:56

I think it's normal for August. May-July are generally nicer then August is very changeable. The odd nice day thrown into generally wet windy and overcast weather.
September will be nice again (as soon as kids go back to school Grin).

Samanabanana · 08/08/2021 07:57

Climate change Sad

DinosaurDiana · 08/08/2021 07:58

I considered flicking the heating on last night to dry my washing.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/08/2021 08:00

Agree that it's normal for August. It'll probably get better after the school holidays.

MrsDThomas · 08/08/2021 08:01

@YanTanTethera123 its through the year. So you’re righteous. It doesn’t start in August 😂

Today can be like this. Tomorrow morning can be bright sunshine but by afternoon it can be back to this.

But its why i love it

MrsDThomas · 08/08/2021 08:02

Right-not righteous!

user97495 · 08/08/2021 08:03

Typical August weather from what I can tell, warm with frequent rain/storms. Been like this for a few years from memory. Usually September is nicer, cooler but more sunshine (my prediction!)

FlyingScott · 08/08/2021 08:07

That’s bang on average for the UK Confused I don’t know why anyone would want or need it to be any warmer than that.
RuthTopp · 08/08/2021 08:12

Yes I agree, it's climate change. We live in the North West , 2 weeks ago it was boiling hot.
It's been pouring down here today. Some of our trees are beginning to have leaves turning yellow and red like it's autumn.

DelicateFuckingFlower · 08/08/2021 08:15

August has been like this for years! One of my DC has an August birthday and its nearly always raining on the day. We've had maybe 2 years when it was actually good weather and the rest have been either solid rain, or iffy and grey and showery.

LondonMummer · 08/08/2021 08:19

Statistically August is the wettest of the Sumner months. It's grim but it's nothing new I'm afraid

FancySomeChips · 08/08/2021 08:22

DC has start of Aug birthday and we’ve never had a rain free party in 16 years. And it’s always been “big”’rain as they used to say.

brokenbiscuitsx · 08/08/2021 08:22

I do feel like August in the 90s when I was a child was so much hotter! I remember going to the U.K. coast every summer holiday and it was baking! The last few years August has really turned into an Autumnal month.

I watched something recently that said we are losing the Gulf Stream (that protects us and stops the U.K. being as cold as it should be due to it location) if it goes we are likely to have the same weather as New York (boiling hot summers but freezing Winters)

Blankscreen · 08/08/2021 08:24

It's just been so bad.

I wfh all year and have pretty much sat in my house freezing cold. I have refused to put the heating on since June but have sat with hoodies on because it's so cold

After the lockdowns I think we all longed for some warm summer days. They haven't materialised. People have spent a lot of money to go on holiday in the UK. Whilst you don't expect blistering heat you would hope for some dry days at least nothing it rain

It's going to be a long winter as I feel like summer is over already and the nights are drawing in.
