Curious… when do children stop wailing when they cry? If ever?

I was thinking about this earlier and wondered if all children do this. My DS is nearly 10 and when he cries he wails and screams really loudly and takes a good few minutes to stop and calm down. When he stops he will then say what the problem is but initially it’s really loud wailing whether he’s hurt physically or sad about something.

Is this something children grow out doing or have most 9/10 year olds stopped doing that already? I obviously comfort him and just allow him to calm down before we talk about it but the screaming goes right through me and wondered if other children his age do this too?

My 8yo still wails sometimes, usually when she's hurt herself. Dc1(11) & 2(10) don't anymore, I think they stopped around 8 or 9. Dc4(6) & 5(4) seem to harmonise when they've had a disagreement Hmm

My DD (12) hasn't emailed for a while (she became self-conscious I think) but my 9 year old could wake the dead with his wailing (when very lightly stubbing a toe or whatever). I think it's when they become more self aware that they try not to make such a fuss. Not sure my 9 year old will ever care Confused
