Colitis folks who get meds constpation, Laxido not working, suggestions please

DH is in a massive colitis flare, meds are upped to the max and so he's now totally blocked up and in massive pain. Consultant has told him just to take 8 laxido a day but it's doing nothing.

For context, he had his first flare in February and has had no respite since, has had two hospital admissions since and was admitted to hospital on Tues, had infection markers so was on iv anti b's, steroids and morphine and sent home yesterday still in massive pain as it's so busy

The pains all lower stomach area, seems to be pushing on the groin nerves and getting nerve pain down his legs.

So laxido is shit or not what's better?

I cant do lactulose as my body seizes up when I try but both of the above work within an hour or so.

wasn't clear after laid comes lactulose but I would bypass and go for ricola

Has the consultant seen him? I assume so if he was just discharged.

I have colitis and have never had meds cause constipation. I do feel a bit strange though when a bad flare comes under control with prednisone, sometimes basically overnight and the deluge stops.

I would be a bit concerned about the possibility of toxic megacolon, which can happen with colitis and can be life threatening.

But hopefully he is being watched for that.

If he has very bad pain you should think about a and e. My experience with colitis for over 35 years is yes, pain, but usually it comes in waves of cramping.

I hope he feels better soon. Etyvio has me in remission
