Not sure what the music has got to do with your pin? Very strange. Funny you should mention this though as I know M&S don't play music (except Christmas). Maybe you're better off there?

caughtinanet · 06/08/2021 20:47

Are you the poster who seems to have many ongoing bad experiences with Tesco and likes to start threads slagging them off? If not you might be able to find that poster and start a campaign together

Pesky old Tesco and their cunning ploy to fill shoppers brains with music so they can't pay for there food.

Little tip for you, never, whatever you do go in JD sports Grin

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2021 20:48

I know every little helps

But no.

budgun · 06/08/2021 20:49

It happened in Tesco or Asda?

What has this to do with your PIN?

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 06/08/2021 20:49

Our Asda has piped 'Asda radio', it's not too loud, I kinda like it. Our Tesco doesn't have piped music but somebody put a speaker right at the entrance to play their tunes - I walk past it as quickly as possible!

WeatherwaxOn · 06/08/2021 20:51

Was anyone t-rexing? Was the music Erasure?
Did you see Sharon buying wine?

NotJustfriends · 06/08/2021 20:56

No. I work in Tesco and the music helps the 10 hour shifts go by slightly quicker thanks

How bizarre you went shopping forgot your pin due to alleged loud music so left and shopped online .
Never experienced loud music causing me to forget pin but I use Apple Pay .

smallandimperfectlyformed · 06/08/2021 21:02

I love music in shops! Sorry it bothers you though, perhaps you could see if they are still doing the quiet hours a lot of places were doing pre-Covid? They used to be in maybe the first hour of opening, aimed at people with autism and anxiety etc

AbsolutelyPatsy · 06/08/2021 21:03

ah @NotJustfriends
so as i thought it is not for the customers benefit but the staff.

i stopped going to asda as the staff were virtually dancing in the aisles,

i cannot afford M & S, i was pretty stressed anyway but this tipped me over the edge, and it seems i am alone, or no other mumsnetters thus far agree with me

ok, sorry for not being clear.
i stopped shopping due to loud music in asda, and started to have an online shopping delivered.

recently i popped in for some things to tesco, loud music, forgot pin, could not think straight.

If you really have forgotten your pin.
In santander banking app log on go to more at the bottom of first screen cards and you can access pin by tapping your log in details.
Don't know about other banks but can't imagine it's the only one with this facility

Polmuggle · 06/08/2021 21:05

The music really isn't loud OP. Is your store an outlier? Do you have sensitivity to noise generally?

AbsolutelyPatsy · 06/08/2021 21:05

i got my pin back through the online app, so alls well.

OP posts:
AbsolutelyPatsy · 06/08/2021 21:08

um, what is an outlier?

i get very stressed at christmas with the muzak in the shop
is that only me?
i need noise cancelling headphones

OP posts:
HarrietSchulenberg · 06/08/2021 21:10

I've never noticed music in Tesco so it must be fairly unobtrusive in all my local branches. Steer well clear of Primark, OP, they only play 4 songs so your head'll be proper fried if you try to pay by card in there.

budgun · 06/08/2021 21:10

I wear EarPods to lesson outside noises because I am sensitive.

So yes, you should get some headphones if you think it might help.

quizqueen · 06/08/2021 21:12

I've never noticed any music in any shop!!!

LavendulaAngustifolia · 06/08/2021 21:13

They have music?

SavoyCabbage · 06/08/2021 21:16

I don't like noise from multiple sources in shops.

Like when there is music playing and also one of those TVs selling frying pans in Dunelm or when you can hear music inside the shop you are in and diff music from the shopping centre. Or at the doctors when there is a TV in the waiting room and the receptionist is on the phone.

I wouldn't complain about it though! I see it as something that is different about me that doesn't bother other people and it's up to me to adapt not everyone else.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 06/08/2021 21:21

funnily enough they did announce the quiet hour during my shopping trip!

OP posts:
MargosKaftan · 06/08/2021 21:31

OP - no, most people don't mind the music in shops, it's rarely loud or all that noticeable.

You must be usually sensitive to it. Noise cancelling headphones is a good idea. Are you OK in clothes shops that often play music or is it just supermarkets that overwhelm you? Do you not normally go in large shops?

Ordering online might be best for you. Most chains do play music or have noise and announcements.
