eBay - scammy buyer?

DC sold his Nintendo DS on eBay. It was definitely in good working order when he posted it (I watched DC factory reset it and check it was all fine). Buyer is saying it doesn't switch on. We've asked them to send a video, which they have. We suspect that they've taken a video of another DS that's broken. I'm not really sure how to proceed!

This is crap for you. EBay always side with the buyer unfortunately. Did you make a note of the serial number?

Ask them to return it?

LarryVeest · 06/08/2021 20:43

We have a slightly blurred photo of the serial number, and can make it the last four or five digits.

I would phone Ebay (not right now, you need to speak to someone in Ebay Ireland) so 8 am-ish and explain that you suspect the buyer is attempting to defraud you. They're pretty good with advice.

We had this with an expensive bathing aid that was our late FIL's.

Buyer claimed it was broken. It wasn't. We package products for work, and it was wrapped in layers of bubble wrap, foam and inside a thick cardboard box. There was no way it could have broken in transit.

Paypal refunded the buyer without question. Hence we no longer use Ebay.

Well then you need to get them to return it, and if it's not the same one that you sent (different serial number) then you pass all of this on to ebay. You're better trying to speak to ebay on the phone, tell them your concern now.

Let them know that you have the serial number without revealing it an see what happens

Thanks all. Going to speak to eBay tomorrow. And depending on their advice I might just get the buyer to send it back without letting on that we know (part of) the serial number, just in case they try and swap the serial number stickers over.
