So I knew he was up to something yesterday. Went to meet a friend (who I know is a bit dodgy) and after I picked him up he came in and went straight to his room. A mum just knows somethings amiss. So when he’s out at work today I have a little scout around, open a cupboard and get a whiff. Found it, taken it. He’s just come in, I’ve acted completely normal (and not like I’m wanting to throttle him) and now he’s up there and I can hear him scurrying around. Is he going to ask me or just panic himself?!
I did know he’d “tried it” about 2 months ago when I picked him up from the park and he was yellow, got him to admit it and he said he’d tried it and it made him feel ill so he’d never do it again. I agreed to not to tell his dad that time (we are not together) if he promised not to ever touch it again.
Dad will literally explode.
Dad has been doing some work in my house today whilst I’ve been out at work so DS is probably shitting himself thinking Dads found it.
How shall I continue to play this?!

Think id genuinely tell him id grass up his mate if you ever found anymore. That sort of thing was the only thing stopped my mates.

@maxbabi

My son is 16 and after the year these kids have had a bit of weed is no big deal. His mates meet up and smoke I see nothing wrong with it at all.
I've seen more than one promising athlete have a lot of what they've worked for down the drain cause of too much weed. I researched it a lot, weed is actually associated with some pretty horrible mental conditions. Sure teens do it but it's way more harmful than a lot of people think. You only have one brain, don't mess it up with weed.
Polkadots2021 · 06/08/2021 19:24

@BrozTito

Weed isnt the casual thing to be joked about anymore, its strength is ridiculous and ive seen so many 15 year olds mentally destroyed by it.
Yeah me too

This isn't a game

The normal response of our local dealers to a currier losing a payload will be a knife through the thigh, leaving it more or less to chance whether they severe an artery or not

The first time.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/08/2021 19:31

Change it for catnip and let us know the results.

well, if I could introduce you to the children who grow it you might change your mind.

Asian, often Vietnamese, its hard to tell their age as they will not have been fed for years, so could look 6 or 7, even if they are in reality 11 or 12.

Totally silent, you don't know if they understand English or not, they don't speak it, they don't speak at all, even to each other.

Names and identities unknown, and may never be found

Confused to be offered a place at a table, no idea what to do with cutlery, completely bewildered by a bed with pillows and a matress, more likely to wrap a blanket around themselves and fold themselves up into a tiny parcel in the corner on the floor.

I've met these slaves when they are freed by police raids on cannabis farms and brought into emergency foster care.

Your son is dealing with people traffickers, slave owners and organised crime.

Not to mention inflicting permanent brain damage on himself,

But you see "nothing wrong with it at all"

because he has had a mildly inconvenient year.

Wow. When the shit they’re smoking is not what it was years ago and the damage it can do to young minds is now known, just wow.
ConkerBonkers · 06/08/2021 19:41

54321nought off topic but perhaps try sitting down on the floor for dinner with a low table, and to use chopsticks with dishes in the middle of the table to choose from, perhaps it's what you already do, thought worth to mention xxx

I found similar when my DS was similar age...I went in 'overkill', questioned him, grounded him, fought drug test kits online, made him take them. (I absolutely overreacted on purpose) we had a drug addict (class A, in rehab about to lose his life) in the family and he understood why I took it more seriously than most.

My DS is a healthy, 20YO uni student now and laughs and rolls his eyes at me, but admits he became terrified of getting caught, at nose he smoked weed a few times but soon lost interest.

Weed is a gateway drug, and sometimes leads to serious drug use. Never condone it (very strange suggestion from a PP to smoke it and send him a photo of you doing so!?)

ConkerBonkers · 06/08/2021 19:42

54321nought also a futon style bed may be appreciated, I guess a bed may seem odd if more used to sleeping in a bedding area on the floor

Halliabaloo · 06/08/2021 19:43

I think dad needs to be told and consequences put in place. If he can’t be trusted to be law abiding he’s grounded and you are prepared to involve the police. He is participating in an industry that is exploitative, criminal and evil, as well as risking his own mental health.

Funnylittlefloozie · 06/08/2021 19:45

@Orf1abc

Grow up and stop playing games. Tell him you've found it, talk about the negative consequences that can come from smoking weed. Talk about how many people are exploited in the supply chain.

Or keep playing games and expect no better from your son.

This.

BTW, I would go fucking MENTAL if my kid brought weed into the house. DP and I are both drug tested and we have drug dogs at work - if the dog indicates on me, I am in a lot of trouble. Tell your dumb-ass kid to smoke his crap in his friends' houses.

Me too. Be very clear that this is NOT the same stuff we smoked in the 90s

Also ask him where he got it and be very wary of involvement with county lines gangs, they target middle class teens

54321nought · 06/08/2021 19:46

I agree @BumbleMug. I find it hard to comprehend how anyone could be so ignorant, and care so little for their child.

I just wish I could show people the results. Slaves. Children stabbed through the legs. brain damage. Criminal records.

Try giving a young ex slave a piece of bread when they are terrified of you approaching them. Try sitting down with a 16 year old school leaver who can't even bring himself to open his GCSE results, can't face his friends because of the tag around his ankle and can't walk without a limp because of the knife wounds in his legs.

Seriously, weed is devastating to immature brains, and ruins children's lives.

This thread, with people talking about it as if it is a game, and saying there is no harm in their children CHILDREN smoking this stuff which destroys brain cells......

The trouble is, people post hoping to find others to collude with them in minimising it, and they probably will

People in Vietnam don't use chopsticks they use cutlery! And they also sleep in beds with bedding.

child slaves in cannabis factories don't

TidyOmlette · 06/08/2021 19:53

Change it for oregano and put it back 😁 see if he says anything or asks

maxbabi · 06/08/2021 19:54

how do you know it wasn't grown here?
Do you buy clothes from primary, Nike etc etc all known child labour products.
Get off your high horse and tell the coke sniffers to stop that industry is far far worse.

It is grown here, children are trafficked into the UK and enslaved HERE, right here. The UK cannabis industry is slave based, often the slaves are children, denied proper food, education or medical care. There are thousands of trafficked child slaves in the UK, working in cannabis factories

And no, I don't buy clothes from any company suspected of using child labour,

and actually, if you consider someone to be "on their high horse" because they object to children being trafficked into slavery in the UK, I suggest you take some time out to consider your moral compass

Frankly I'd tell all you dribbling drug apologists to stop. You're all as bad as each other, and if you don't see the crime, child abuse and mental health casualties, then you're a very privileged little sausage.
maxbabi · 06/08/2021 20:00

Really have to laugh at the pearl clutching going on here. Its hilarious
I would rather my son smoked the odd spliff and to the teacher.....you should see what shit teachers buy and stick up their noses!!! But thats ok right?
I wouldn't want a teacher teach my kids that did hard core drugs.....but they do!
Weed is not a gateway drug.
Lol crack on ladies

maxbabi · 06/08/2021 20:01

Privileged sausage yep thats me pmsl

BrilliantBetty · 06/08/2021 20:02

I mean, it is very normal for 15yo to be exposed to and perhaps trying weed. So I don't think you're going to be able to stop him doing it if he wants to. Especially if he has his own money coming in. And you'll alienate/ encourage him to do it elsewhere and then you'll have no idea what's going on.

Speak to him about it, what can happen to the mind from smoking too much weed and the dangers of escalating. But don't be too hard on him or become unapproachable because a little bit of experimentation is quite a normal part of the teenage years for many.

so now not liking children being trafficked into slavery is pearl clutching? Gosh I must be such a good rider, I'm on such a high horse and my hands apparently aren't even on the reigns..
