Need passport quick for BRITISH cruise. Hadn’t checked it, as not going going abroad. It’s expired. Fuck!

Anyone applied recently? How long does it take?

Can you do it in person?

Toottooot · 06/08/2021 14:37

Press saying up to 10 weeks.

CMOTDibbler · 06/08/2021 14:41

My colleague got hers back in 5 days, and others on here had similar times. Do the taking your photo on your phone thing, and get on with it now!

When are you going?

Mumof2boys86 · 06/08/2021 14:41

I did one on line last Friday and have had a text to say its been posted to me today, so Just over a week.

HPLikecraft · 06/08/2021 14:42

@olivo

Can you do it in person?
There is only one possibility for that (because it’s for DD, too) and that’s to go to Belfast (from South Wales) two days before trip.

May have to do that Sad

Did a renewal a couple of weeks ago. Took a week.

Greytminds · 06/08/2021 14:43

You can do it in a day if you go in person but there might not be appointments for several days and you’d have to travel to wherever that appointment was - Peterborough, Glasgow etc.

HPLikecraft · 06/08/2021 14:44

@CMOTDibbler British cruise! Not leaving the country! So silly.

Why do you need an in date passport? Can you call the cruise company and check if they will accept an out of date passport if its just needed for id purposes?

It could be they ask automatically but don't actually need it, just prefer it as form of ID.

(We renewed dc1s passport a couple of months ago when the press was saying 10 weeks then, it was back in 2.)

Sporadica · 06/08/2021 14:48

Are you sure you need a passport, or just government-issued ID? Also, don't assume you qualify for the one-day rush - I'd done it before but now because I have another citizenship I am ineligible, and the fastest I can get a UK passport is 2 weeks.

Tippexy · 06/08/2021 14:48

I'd push back; it's not a legal requirement, they just want to see ID.

HPLikecraft · 06/08/2021 14:51

I’m on hold to cruise company ATM (35 minutes now!)

Hopefully they’ll accept driving licence.

Thank you all for your responses.

Probably because even on a UK cruise you may leave British waters or get diverted due to weather.

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 06/08/2021 14:52

I did a renewal 12 days ago, still waiting ☹️ jealous of those that have got theirs back quickly.

Rememberallball · 06/08/2021 14:53

Depending on the cruise line you may get away with other photo ID but, if it’s a Carnival Corp UK cruise line, you will need a passport with 6 months on your return date. If you’re sailing this coming week your only chance is to try and get an appointment in person

ImSoMagical · 06/08/2021 15:05

I booked an emergency appointment online, earliest was 11 days, Glasgow or Belfast. Drove up to Glasgow day before flight and picked up passport.

MintyGreenDream · 06/08/2021 15:19

Ds took around 5 days

Mumof2boys86 · 06/08/2021 16:24

Yes, just a normal renewal of a passport that ran out in May. Had digital pictures taken at snappy snaps and uploaded the picture by the code.

HPLikecraft · 06/08/2021 17:02

Thanks all... can’t do the speediest choice for DD as shes a child, the next speediest won’t be in time. Have done a normal application and hoping for the best.
May have to postpone trip. Gutted.
