Hi all
I’m not sure if this is the right place to put this but I am on my period, I have been for about a week, just spotting untill today. I’ve been heavy all day (like I am every month) but I just got out of the shower and within 5 minutes I was covered in blood my tampon was full, I went to the toilet and lost quite a large blood clot. I have pictures if needed.
I sat on the toilet for a while then cleaned myself up and I haven’t soaked my tampon yet,,that was 30 mins or so ago, so it was just the episode after the shower. Should I be concerned? Do I call the doctor for advice? I don’t want to waste their time if this is normal
TIA

It can be perfectly normal.

My periods are 14 days every 25 and for hours on end I'll clot like that and flood a tampon and pad every 20 minutes.

I lose 5-6 clots the size of a tub of jelly in the space of 10 minutes whilst sat on the loo.

I now take northisterone daily whilst I wait for gynae apt because losing a clot or 2 can be normal but that level and frequency isn't.

If it's not normal for you and you are concerned contact your GP,

This is normal for a lot of people, it's often referred to on here as "clots and flooding". (I get it for 4 hour stretches, it's awful.)

How old are you op? If it's the first time, I wouldn't worry about it. I would however start keeping a diary and note anything unusual for you. It's not normal as such, and things like polyps or fibroids can cause it to happen, which is what it is in my case, but gps like to see a pattern (which is why keeping a diary helps) to try and work out what is happening.

I find on the first proper period day, I flood a tampon and sanitary towel since having DD2. The day before, I’ll get pinkish discharge and then start properly overnight/ the following morning. I’ll wake up in the morning and have to run to the toilet before I flood everywhere. I get a few clots but nothing too major though.

Have you recently had a covid vaccine? There's been a few threads on here where people have had odd things happen to their cycle or heavy bleeding. This is one of them www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4275064-anyone-else-had-changes-to-their-period-after-the-covid-vaccine-come-and-talk-to-me?msgid=108353505

It is normal for me but I have pcos. If it keeps happening it's worth investigating as you don't want your iron levels getting low of your periods becr.super heavy.

Huge regular clots were the norm for me for a long time. I had fibroids and endo, which caused severe anemia. Had fibroids removed and mirena inserted, which has been life changing. I wouldn’t worry about 1 clot but if it becomes a regular things, get it checked out.
