Tongue sores week before period

10 replies

Ouchyhurt · 05/08/2021 21:15

I consistently get a sore tongue the week before my period, ulcers on the edge. I have low ferritin levels (9) but have also read it can be linked to hormones.

Anybody else suffer with this?

Yes. Currently nursing a sore tongue and think it’s hormone related. Sending sympathy

Do you mind me asking how old you are?

I was suffering from a very sore tongue, ulcers, scalloping, swollen as well as very dry mouth.

I’ve been put on HRT and in less than a week my mouth was back to normal.

That's interesting, how old are you? I'm 44

I used to suffer with this but read somewhere it could be due to low vitamin B. I now supplement with Tesco's own brand Berocca everyday and now I hardly ever get ulcers, sores or cracks at the side of my mouth.

CouldBeOuting · 06/08/2021 13:34

@Ouchyhurt I’m 52

@nemesia I was tested for low vitamin B but my levels were fine - I ve taken a multi vitamin for years moving into the Over 50s version when I passed that milestone.

I take immune suppressants, these interfere with my periods, and I get these sometimes.

Good oral hygiene, zinc, b vitamins help.

Anbesol for pain.

Vitamin B sorted mine too.

And many people need to be at least mid range to feel well. People in the lower half of 'range' often feel better on supplements.

Thank you, off to get some vitamin B this weekend!
