Artistic swimming (synchronised swimming)

I always love watching the synchronised swimming but I have a question. How on earth do they wash whatever gel/superglue out of their hair when it is so obviously impervious to water?!

They said it’s gelatine and melts in the hot showers after.

Synchro Mums I knew about 20 years ago used Nivea from a blue tin! Apparently it needed a lot of work to get it off.
They used to sit around chatting at the poolside, sewing sequins onto costumes. The girls had either wet or dry training (barre work) three times a week.

Ex synchro Mum here.

it's just packet gelatine, made up in bowls (usually on the bus on the way to competitions!) and painted on to the hair with a paintbrush.

It comes out in the hot showers after a couple of shampoos and their hair is gloriously conditioned afterwards.

Thanks everyone. I am an ex gym mum and now a dance mum, it's amazing when you think how similar the sports are but also so so different!

My DD started in Artistic gymnastics then left at 7. Started in Acro at 11 and moved on to Synchro at 13.

She could barely swim but she was competing at the national champs within a year of starting - the background of gymnastics skills was so important. You can have great swimmers but if they're not flexible and can't point their toes and move gracefully, they're not going to make good synchro swimmers.

It's a massively demanding sport and very, very difficult to learn and to do it well.
