Marc Chagall : Bataille des Fleurs

N0RKS · 04/08/2021 15:29

Do you need to find a specific one, or are you just wanting a selection?

Gladioli23 · 04/08/2021 15:29

I don't have mega art knowledge but I'm pretty sure Van Gogh lived in Provence for a couple of years - I think he did a farmhouse there, and I have a print of his "a wheatfield with cypresses" which I think is meant to have been painted of Provence.

You could look at Gauguin, Seurat, Sisley, Monet, probably Courbet, Van Gogh, Cezanne.

Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Room (yellow onewith the rush chair) were both painted when he was in Arles.

Thanks, I want one of southern France landscape. It’s a present for someone so want to buy a nice quality version of it, framed. Any ideas on where to go for that?! Looking online it seems like there’s lots of poster versions of the Harvest by van gough for instance but I don’t want a poster of it!

Cezanne

MorganSeventh · 04/08/2021 15:41

Art galleries are usually a good place to buy good quality prints, so the National Gallery online shop, for example, should have some options for landscapes.

FadoFado · 04/08/2021 15:42

What about Cezanne's paintings of Mont Sainte-Victoire?

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2021 15:43

This one?

ShitShop · 04/08/2021 15:44

Not wishing to sound snooty but would a painting by a less well known artist be better than a print of a famous one? I’m sure there must be loads of artists who’ve been to France and painted lovely landscapes. Maybe try and find one of them on Etsy or something rather than a well known painting, as that could be a bit naff, bit like having a Mona Lisa print on the wall IYSWIM

Matisse, Raoul Dufy or (my favourite) Bonnard.

TonTonMacoute · 04/08/2021 15:47

Just read your second post OP, I think what you want is a giclée print, they can be done onto paper or onto a canvas.

Happy36 · 04/08/2021 15:51

Cézanne painted a series of paintings of Mont Sainte-Victoire which is near Aix.

Van Gogh painted a lot of the countryside in Arles, which is also in Provence (but Van Gogh wasn't French).

ScribblingPixie · 04/08/2021 15:51

Dufy's Nice Promenade & others by the same artist are easy to get hold of. I also like those vintage tourism posters of the Cote d'Azur.

TonTonMacoute · 04/08/2021 15:54

Van Gogh Harvest here

Other artists are available!

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 04/08/2021 15:54

I love Matisse - Open Window at Collioure.

BIWI · 04/08/2021 15:55

How much do you want to spend?

ItsDinah · 04/08/2021 15:59

Picasso's Pigeons - on the balcony at Cannes cheer me up every time I see them. I have a print on my kitchen wall and it's like having an extra window looking out onto the sunny south of France.

FadoFado · 04/08/2021 16:03

I agree that one of the vintage Cote D'Azur/Riviera travel ads might be a good idea. You can feel the sunshine when you look at them,

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/08/2021 16:07

Lots lovely possibilities. Raoul Dufy, if not already mentioned. I will just add, though, that art is a very personal thing and I would regard it as a risky present unless you know a great deal about the recipient's tastes and preferences.

gogohm · 04/08/2021 16:37

There's lovely paintings of Provence eg lavender fields and originals are very reasonable by unknown artists, I have a beautiful original oil painting by an art student which cost €55

Agree with this post. A print of a well known painting can be underwhelming.
