Formula feeding, hand expressing

Hi there,

I have a 4 week old baby and has been exclusively formula feeding. I had pain in my Nipple and HW advised that I hand express as there may have been a blockage. I feel like it has encouraged the production of milk and is playing havoc with my emotions. Anyone else experiences this or can offer advice?

Expressing will increase your supply but if the blockage has cleared it shouldn't take too long for supply to drop again, hand expressing wouldn't usually produce huge volumes of milk?

Why do you feel it's playing havoc with your emotions?

Has the pain stopped? If so, stop expressing and let it dry up.

What exactly is making you feel emotional? (other than having a baby 4 weeks ago which is a major emotional upheaval!)
