Would anyone like to sell me their Cartmel mug?

If you have one, obviously Grin

This is a very selfish request! I've just broken my last one. It's one of my favourite cups in the world, and I've just found out they've stopped selling them a while back.

I'm keeping an eye on eBay and Etsy but if anyone here would like to sell theirs to me (on one of those platforms if it's safest!) I'd be really grateful?

Would anyone like to sell me their Cartmel mug?

Just a small bump for anyone hanging round this evening Smile

I don’t sorry but know what it’s like to lose your favourite drinking cup!! BUMP!!

Theneverendingcleaningcycle · 04/08/2021 19:16

I don't have one but also bumping. I don't know what I would do without my favourite mug...

cartmelmug · 04/08/2021 19:36

Thank you both! They seemed to always sell them and we bought a few on our old regular trips to the Lake District, but we haven't visited for a few years now.

I should have ordered more, they have the perfect cup "feel" and I'd swear that they make tea taste better. 😩

Is it a Dunoon mug, if you can find what they call the shape (maybe Argyll?) you may find the same mug in different designs.

cartmelmug · 04/08/2021 20:10

I've just fished the pieces out of the bin and you're right, it is a Dunoon mug! Thank you, I will have a good hunt around Smile

Update! My lovely husband just came in with a huge smile and gave me a cup of tea in a backup mug that he hid in the cupboard ages ago! It looks a bit "new" compared to my old worn one but it feels right and I am so happy.

@NotMeNoNo I've bid on a few similar backup mugs on eBay and am really grateful to you for the suggestion.

Gosh it's been years since I've had some proper cartmel sticky toffee pudding!

cartmelmug · 05/08/2021 14:53

Yes the pudding is lovely too! I've just seen that our local farm sells an apple crumble version and am planning to pick that up the next time we're there!

Your husband is a genius! Glad you’re sorted!

Gherkingreen · 05/08/2021 15:02

I love Cartmel, and make a version of their sticky toffee pudding, it's absolutely incredible and super easy to make. Roll on autumn, it's the best time of year to eat it.

Givemebackmylilo · 05/08/2021 15:08

Wow. 10/10 husband.

SunShinesBrightly · 05/08/2021 15:08

I have the Staffordshire one. It is Argyll. At least you know what to search for now OP.

He's a good un! He was so busy yesterday, I only mentioned at lunch today what happened.

What's your recipe @Gherkingreen? Smile

Crockof · 05/08/2021 15:10

Op I fucking love you. After reading this post I thought I'd have another look on ebay for a mug that got lost stolen during a house move, I've checked loads of times over the years and nothing, but today there are two, so I've bought them both.
Glad you dh had one hidden away

cartmelmug · 05/08/2021 15:12

Thanks @SunShinesBrightly - I think that those ones seem to slightly point outwards, instead of being straight up and down like the Cartmel one - but it's the right handle so I'll look into them if the eBay ones don't work out Smile (sorry, I appreciate it's all a bit three bears - "that's not my mug, it's handle is too curvy" etc Grin)

Oh! I feel your joy @Crockof 🥳

Gherkingreen · 05/08/2021 15:13

@cartmelmug it's an old one from the unmentionable newspaper that a family member passed on to me. If I knew how to attach a pic I'd share...it's all about the sugar, dates, butter and flour...

cartmelmug · 05/08/2021 15:15

Ah no worries, I'll just have to make do with Cartmel's finest instead Grin

OP posts:
Gherkingreen · 05/08/2021 15:25

It's definitely worth the trip isn't it? They used to do mail order, not sure if they still do.

Haven't tried to attach a pic before - has it worked? If so, 'scuse the stained recipe...it's v well loved Grin

cartmelmug · 05/08/2021 15:49

That has worked - thank you so much! I may give that go this weekend Smile

I’ve just done the same as crockof

I still have my cup but I need an heir and a spare.

Nothing tastes the same if it is another cup.

Mine has been discontinued by the look of it so I need to prepare - just in case.

cartmelmug · 05/08/2021 16:08

Ah, feeling very proud of being such an inspiring cautionary tale Grin

I think your DH has just renewed his 'keeper' status! You've got a good one there!
