First romantic getaway and it's going to rain.

My partner and I have been together almost two years but owing to the virus and a myriad of other reasons, this weekend will be our first break away from home together. We're staying in a gorgeous cottage in the middle of nowhere. The only problem is, according to the weather forecast, it is going to rain from the moment we walk through the door to the moment we leave three days later.

Has anyone any suggestion for things we can do together to make it feel like not just another wet weekend at home? Yes, we'll still go walking but it's not nearly as nice in the rain and yes, there will be lots of sex but we're both almost 50 Wink.

It would be lovely to come away on Sunday feeling refreshed and like we've actually had a break.

Rain in a cottage is very romantic. It might not rain all the time anyway. How about cooking together? Reading poems together? (If I suggested this my dh would laugh in my face but you never know...)

Forest, tree with loads of leaves provides partial shelter, wham bam thank you 😉

I think it sounds even cosier with the rain! Wine, music, board game or film? You’re in a new place so will still feel different

Rainy few days in a romantic cottage?

Bliss. Time for jigsaws, old movies, reading, leisurely meals and just being together.

Stay off your phones!

How in the middle of nowhere? If the weather was going to be better what would you be doing?

LostLlamaSociety · 04/08/2021 10:01

@DonLewis Our original plan was to climb a mountain during the day then star gaze at night, watching for shooting stars from the Perseid meteor shower whilst toasting marshmallows.

We're in a cottage on a cliff overlooking the sea. There is now a weather warning in place for localised flooding 😄

God I'm jealous, what could be even more romantic
Does it have a fire? Still go for walks, walk to the nearest pub restaurant enjoy a leisurely meal, go out for brunch, share a bath or shower , enjoy the cosiness of it all
Watch films, snuggle up, give each other a massage

I'm jealous too. This is my idea of heaven. I don't think it matters what the weather is like so long as you're with someone you love. But I am a hopeless romantic.

The best thing to do is plan, make a list and get it all before you go. My dh and I went away a few years ago. We were stranded in a similar set up. We had a good time but I didn't take enough ( grocery wise), which was a bit short sighted as it's so easy to just throw it all in the car.
But, yeah, we cooked, read, listened to music, pampered ( mostly me) and just relaxed.

Ohhh this sounds so lovely, despite the weather!! I hope you report back.
Enjoy your weekend!

ProfessorInkling · 04/08/2021 10:48

Sounds perfect. Lay in bed reading, watch some good films, go somewhere lovely for dinner.

Learn / play chess
Food
Walks in the rain
Skinny dipping (not in rough seas!)

Oh come on, woman! Rain is famously romantic. Just veer more towards the cheesy Mills and Boon 'rain drenched white shirt revealing a hint of nip, quick, let's seek shelter in a hay barn' type of rain romance rather than the darker Emily Bronte style soggy moor wandering romance which never ends well really.
