Air bnb refund due to no WiFi how much?

Never had any trouble in any Air bnb before but we are staying in a property that advertised WiFi but it isn't connected for whatever reason.
Host said will look into it but doesn't update us even though says he will. I have to chase and he says he doesn't know when back on and seems very non chalant about it all as If it's not a big deal.
We chose the property on the basis it had WiFi and partner could work away from home and our ASD teen was happy!. We stayed waiting a resolution otherwise we would have tried to find somewhere else but now no point as only 1 more day and won't be able to find anywhere that short notice.
Our stay is 3 days so no idea how much to ask as a partial refund as never had any issues before but this has spoilt our holiday.

Is there a wifi box or a wifi network that shows up but isn't connecting? My feelings would change depending on whether there is really no wifi at all and he has falsely advertised or the wifi is down and its beyond his control.
How much would also depend on how much is has really impacted your stay. If it has completely ruined your trip perhaps ask for a 1/2 or 1/3 back if its just an inconvenience but you still had a nice time perhaps ask for a token amount back.
In the past I have found air bnb great for issuing partial refunds or even in one case a full refund. However both times I left early and reported why to airbnb. Once not as advertised (partial) and once it a glorified drug den and i've never felt so unsafe (full refund). Based on this you might get air bnb to issue a refund for not as advertised but you will have made it harder by not leaving early

Will your husband lose income due to having no WiFi?
If so, then that much

Glassbook · 04/08/2021 06:52

The price of a data bundle on your mobile phone.

I think as you have stayed you will be unlikely to get a refund
Staying means you have accepted that there is no Wi-fi
You should have left straight away
You might get lucky for a small refund
It’s also probably why the host is stringing it out
If you stay it’s unlikely to give you a refund

I'd want the data bundle I had to use on my phone at least.

We had no electricity for a day and was refunded £50. This was 6 years ago.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/08/2021 07:19

The cost of the daya bundle/bundles you needed.

Yeah I’d go for this angle too.
Wishes2020 · 04/08/2021 07:41

The cost of WiFi is low so I guess they could round it up to a £5 refund for the time you were there.

Tlems · 04/08/2021 07:42

The cost of a data bundle for your phone.

That could be more than the whole rental.

And surely you would use phone data rather than lose income?

If I rented out an AirBnB there is no way I would take responsibility for enabling business to be done from the property.

Yes, some compensation is reasonable, holding the owner responsible for someone’s business in a holiday rental: hardly.

Guineapigbridge · 04/08/2021 07:45

Cost of next best alternative: i.e. the cost of a data bundle

Elouera · 04/08/2021 07:50

Years ago I had similar. The room had WIFI, but it was almost at dial up speed! The advert said WIFI, with no mention of speed, so we didn't get a refund.

As a side, AirBNB have a community/forum section I only recently discovered. You might find the answer or similar cases on their too.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 04/08/2021 08:13

You can’t claim more than the cost of a data bundle on your phone I’m afraid. Most of what you pay for an AirBnB is the accomodation itself (beds, location, etc) the wifi is only a small part.

🤣 Good luck with that.
Intherightplace · 04/08/2021 08:22

What would your home wifi compensate you if wifi was down for 3 days? Not much, I'm guessing.

The maximum would be the cost of using your mobile hot spot, but TBH, unless there isn't any wifi, rather than the wifi's not working, I think it's one of those things.

What did DH do to resolve things so he could still work? If it was nothing.....

Why not? It's likely to be admin type work rather than having clients call at the property and immaterial in terms of insurance.
