Have you asked for an expidited appointment.
cdn.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-expeditedappointment.asp
Theres a bit low down the page about students.

Sorry that was from India.
Try ringing

How do I speak to someone at the US embassy in London?
You can call the Embassy in London on 020 7499 9000 during office hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. GMT/BST) if you or a loved one are a U.S. citizen in an emergency. You can dial 011 44 20 7499 9000 if you are calling from the United States.

I'd say to start calling at 08.25 and keep hitting redial till you get through.
In the meantime keep checking for cancelled appointments, I was checking for a passport appointment one day and as I looked at the calendar, 4 appointments popped up for the next day, so it does happen.

You can ask for an expedited appointment but in my experience it’s unlikely he’ll have a visa within a week. Even an expedited appointment is likely to be a couple of weeks away, then they take your passport and send it back to your chosen pickup point, which normally takes 3-5 days. I don’t see him being in the US within a week to be honest.

Also, if he’s going to be studying abroad let him organise the visa appointment. I’m sure he is old enough to do so.

Kanaloa · 03/08/2021 21:03

Oh, and to ask for an expedited appointment he will need to make his application, take the soonest appointment (probably March/April will be offered) then go on the website and apply for expedited appointment. You can’t ask for an expedited one unless you’ve already taken the far away one.

Emergency appointments are for bereavements etc. My visa took 5 weeks last time and DD's passport took weeks to get an appointment then 10 days to be returned, on the day wasn't possible

We've been waiting for our "expedited" appointments since January. So, good luck with that. As far as I understand, there is a massive backlog at most US embassies.

Well done SortCode. Hope it goes well. Make sure you get in the right line and are there before the appointment time.

Kanaloa · 06/08/2021 07:43

That’s unusual. Normally you ask for an expedited appointment and they send you one, rather than them being released and you choosing one.

Appt 10am got here 9am. Gone through checks just waiting for the interview! So far 3 hours!!!
