Leeds- Sunday evening dining

wherenowfromhere · 03/08/2021 16:19

Looking for recommendations for Sunday evening dining options in Leeds.

Would like somewhere a bit lively/busy as places can be a bit flat on a Sunday and quite a few places are shut Sunday evening and I haven't been anywhere since pre covid!

Staying in a hotel in city centre so needs to be walkable (anywhere in city centre).

Open to all suggestions!

Leeds can feel quite quiet at the best of times but there are some fabulous restaurants. What kind of food and what’s your budget?

The Owl in Kirkgate Market (chef's kiss)

I really like Bibi’s

Drinks in the Alchemist

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2021 16:26

I was going to suggest Bibi’s too.

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2021 16:40

I really like Little Tokyo too, very central, but I havn’t been for a few years, since I no longer work in Leeds. I used to go a lot when I did.

Beamur · 03/08/2021 16:43

There used to be a nice place on the Calls, is that still there Leeds folk?

Hemingwaycat · 03/08/2021 16:46

Bundobust is my favourite.

Monday26July · 03/08/2021 16:52

I advise Little Tokyo. Absolutely gorgeous food.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 03/08/2021 17:00

Depends what kind of food you're after - there are so many options. Chinese I would go with Tattu. For Indian, Tharavadu or Tiffin Rooms.

Igloo71 · 03/08/2021 17:05

Hope you don’t mind me asking on your post OP, but I’m visiting Leeds with my daughter next week to look at the uni. Locals, would you recommend one of the Alchemist venues over the other?

ArnoldBee · 03/08/2021 17:07

We were quite surprised when we stumbled on Greek Street as the surrounding streets were deathly quiet then all this life appeared!

delilahbucket · 03/08/2021 17:09

Go to Assembly Underground. Street food style outlets and bars inside. The burgers from Slap and Pickle are THE best thing you will ever eat!

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2021 17:18

The Calls Grill

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2021 17:24

Any of the above, or Tapped, Rudis or Franco Manca if you like good pizza, or Mowgli for another modern Indian suggestion, especially if you can't get into Bundobust or Tharavadu, both of which seem to be permanently full unless you want to eat very early or very late.

We eat out a lot on Sunday evenings and don't find it quiet or places closed generally. Quite often you have to go round a few places to actually get in. Apart from Franco Manca, all the above are just a couple of minutes away from city square.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2021 17:25

There's also Iberico, El Gato Negro or Ambiente if you want tapas.

They're both much of a muchness to be honest! The Trinity one has a nice outdoor area if the weather's nice though.
Igloo71 · 03/08/2021 17:51

Thanks @chocolatesaltyballs22

wherenowfromhere · 03/08/2021 18:20

This is great thank loads of options here!

I love Mowgli- having pizza at home on Friday. Bibis looks it interesting but not sure if I can get my head around the dinner and show!

The owl looks good but shut Sunday.

@BarbaraofSeville glad to hear it's lively on a Sunday- Looks like there will be some choice at least. Found it a bit flat in York and Lincoln recently on a Sunday - ghost towns! Lots of independent restaurants shut sun- Monday or close 6 ish.

Cocktails at Alchemist are in the cards and the menu doesn't look bad either although I was hoping for a great local eatery or small chain for food.

@Kiitos budget depends on what and where I suppose. So £

Depending when you're going, chow down is meant to be good www.chowdownevents.co.uk/

Would recommend both alchemists, vice and virtue, lost and found, neon cactus, fazenda

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 03/08/2021 18:40

Would recommend booking whatever you decide OP. The best places will be booked. Mowgli tends to book up weeks in advance.

Chow Down is brilliant!

Check out Zaap if you want somewhere lively. Thai street food in cool surroundings.
I also like Iberica, Casa Colombiana, Thai Aroy Dee, Shears Yard, Sukhothai (much better than Chaophraya), Bundobust (lively and does street food), East 59th, Tavernaki, Shabab (best curry in Leeds).... Lost and Found on Albion Place is also lovely if you can sit in the upstairs part.
Definitely no shortage of good places!

@Igloo71 I’d probably go for Trinity over the other one
