Daily Step Count

Out of curiosity, how many steps do you chart up each day. Guidance is 10,000 per day. I thinks that’s massive. Wfh, desk job and miserable weather play a part - but how many of you consistently make 10,000??

I usually average 10,000 a day over the week but some days will be more and some less. I aim to hit 10,000 but if i've done other exercise that doesn't count steps e.g. spin and swim then I don't bother too much if it's less. At weekends I often do 20k+ with longer walks and runs.
I need to do at least a 5km walk or run (probably more like 7km of running as stride length is longer) plus steps around the house to hit 10k. I try to get out for a walk at lunch and if i'm WFH i can walk to/from the gym which is about 3000 round trip.

@emmathedilemma that’s amazing. I’ve managed to get around 10k the last few days but only due to lucky circumstances. I’m currently stepping on the spot whilst on work calls in a desperate reach at 10k again!

I set myself a target of 15,000. I can do that on a work day because I walk to and from work and try to walk around while I'm at work. But on weekends and during school holidays my step count is often rubbish unless I make myself go for a run.

HelenHywater · 03/08/2021 12:41

When I have school runs, I do over 20,000 a day. Now I have to make an effort (if it's just an ordinary day wfh) to get to 15,000.

I always make 10,000 - have gone to a yoga class this morning and will go for a dog walk or a walk to the shops later. I'm up to 6000 today which is really low for me.

I set a 5k minimum on my fitbit, and have to get there through exercising at home most of the time so don't feel too guilty as I smash the "active minutes" target.

That said, I've done 11k today Grin

@HelenHywater maybe I need to get a dog 😂 I have the kids in the morning until the go to childcare, then work until 5:30 mostly on presentations or working on spreadsheets so not really able to get away from the screen much.

I get 10-15k a day but I only count those achieved out of the house walking dogs or exercising.

However I only work very part time in a school and the rest of the time a sahm. We have two dogs so a lot of walking required.

The days I'm working from home its a struggle - I try to run up & down the stairs every half hour just to get moving! I also try and go out for a walk after work but like you say the weather doesn't always make it very appealing...

HelenHywater · 03/08/2021 14:03

I'm up to 10k now - lunchtime dog walk has got me there.

Mide7 · 03/08/2021 14:06

I wouldn’t worry too much about 10k. Just find out what you do and set yourself a target of more. Whether that’s 500 or 1000.

There isn’t any evidence that 10k has more health benefits
