Do you put your washing detergent in the drum or in the detergent drawer?

I've tried both, and I think I prefer when it is in the drum with the clothes.. clothes come out feeling ultra fresh and clean.
What is the general consensus?

In the drawer. Tried in the drum and it can clump on one spot and leaves stains.
