removed from council housing waiting list without realising

I joined the council housing waiting list in my area 8+ years ago. It is a high demand area and I thought that because of my "secure" status as a private tenant in rented accommodation I would hear more in due course. I'm a LP with 1 DD.

I remember being sent something with a "Band D" notification when I applied (vaguely). I think I even vaguely remember being sent some sort of login to an online thing but as I was band D thought I would be notified as / when I was eligible to bid.

I have waited 8 years to hear more about when I might be eligible a property but not heard anything else from them in that time - no emails or letters.

I managed to get through today to a lady and was told that due to inactivity on my account it was deactivated in 2017 or 2015 (not sure which as it was a brief conversation).

However I received no notification of this nor warning that I would be removed from the list nor emails from the council. No letters or anything.

When I called today I was really upset to be told I had been removed several years ago. The nice lady is going to speak to them and find out more and ask them to contact me (going on prior experiences I could have a battle to even speak to them) but I am really upset.

I would love a property that isn't a high priced private rental property and have been waiting years and years to hear something.

Does anyone have experience about this at all and if there is anything I can do? I maintain that after the initial contact letter they sent (around 8 years ago) I have not had a single email or letter informing me of the requirement to login or warning that I might be removed.

Around the time I received the notification I had a young baby but I was also suffering MH issues and a single parent so I didn't even really know what time of day it was. I do wonder if they might take this into account.

Any advice welcome. Thanks.

How active was you on it before? I've heard that if you haven't been actively bidding for years, then they do automatically take people of the list as there's so many people waiting to be rehoused.

Due to your new circumstances, you may be considered for a higher banding... new baby and mental health needs
