Don't know, but dipping them in sweet and sour sauce is the best way to eat them

Clarkey86 · 02/08/2021 19:45

I had chips, egg fried rice and curry sauce last night and it was sooooo good.

Reallybadidea · 02/08/2021 19:45

Are we talking chips or special Chinese salt and pepper chips?

This is an absolute truth.
Bookaholic73 · 02/08/2021 19:46

Oh I agree, they are so crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
I love them with curry sauce.

SD1978 · 02/08/2021 19:47

@Reallybadidea - both. Normal, chips, and then the fancy ones in the special batter. They kick the are's off the chipie chips. Everytime. Now live in a country that doesn't do 'Chinese chips' it's a constant source of unhappiness for me

PumpkinKlNG · 02/08/2021 19:48

Ohh really, they are horrible round here, taste like oven chips, from all the places I’ve tried

Yumbotumbo · 02/08/2021 19:49

Oh my goodness I'm in heaven right now. Had a crap day at work, failed at my healthy eating so just thought fuck it I'll order Chinese.. Got chips and salt and pepper chicken.. Not even my takeaway of choice. But its delicious.

I loved the ones you used to get from the Indian, sort of darker and wedge shaped and soft but absolutely delicious. No where seems to do them anymore

Redannie118 · 02/08/2021 19:55

@FelicityBeedle our lovely Indian takaway does them. Dipped in tikka masala sauce....#Heaven on a plate

Yumbotumbo · 02/08/2021 20:02

Everything is so salty 🤣

Gutted dreading this
Our Chinese is lovely but the chips are always rock hard so we have a Chinese then nip to the chippy for a bag of chips If we want chips

36degrees · 02/08/2021 21:33

I had an early tea with the DC and now I want takeaway Sad

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 02/08/2021 21:34

It's the oil. They use the oil for lots of other things too so you can different flavours in the oil.

EezyOozy · 02/08/2021 21:44

Oh god I want a takeaway now!!

CatAlice · 02/08/2021 21:46

I love proper chinese takeaway chips, the big fat slightly greasy ones. They knock spots off chippy 🍟chips.

HungryHippo11 · 02/08/2021 21:51

No thanks! Probably the last thing I would choose from the Chinese.

Runningquestion · 02/08/2021 22:33

They are my perfect chips. I hate fish and chip shop chips because they’re all flabby and greasy. Chinese takeaway chips are always the perfect combination of crispy and fluffy. And salt and pepper chips are just...👌

Same here. Years ago chips from the Chinese were amazing, they were different to chippy chips. They had a different taste, due to whichever fat it was that they used, were crispy on the outside and really soft inside and were really thick cut, either half a small potato size or a wedge. Now they’re thin and flat oven chips which are cold by the time you come to eat them. We’ve tried just about every Chinese in town and they’re all the same.
BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 03/08/2021 17:14

Salt and pepper chips are awesome! They’re £4.80 at our local place though! For a tray that isn’t even that large 😮 I always wince a bit but then think fuck it as they’re so awesome with curry sauce 💕

StiffyByng · 03/08/2021 17:26

Bad chips are the biggest disappointment ever. Especially when you end up with what were clearly frozen chips that are still hard in the middle. I have only had chips from one Chinese takeaway that were decent, but they were a weird chippie/Chinese hybrid.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2021 17:30

I don't want to know and I don't care. The one we go to sells the best chips ever. They're just perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. These are just plain chips and are probably some sort of cash and carry chips, deep fried.

Onesailwait · 03/08/2021 17:36

Oh, I'm so jealous. You can't get Chinese chips where I live. Or prawn crackers either:(

StiffyByng · 03/08/2021 20:49

I am definitely getting a Chinese for dinner tomorrow night after this thread, but will be eating glorious fried prawn toasts for my deep-fried carbs. Grin
