Teachers’ summer holiday drinking habits

It’s fair to say I’m fond of a tipple! In term time, I’m
pretty good, only drinking at weekends. However, in the summer holiday, I tend to have a few drinks most evenings… 🙈 Please tell me I’m not alone!

Dear god yes - evening tipples, mimosas with brunch, summer afternoon beer, wine or cocktails with lunch (not necessarily every day I must add). One of the many benefits of the long summer holidays is the permission to have a drink more often. After this year, we've certainly earned it. Cheers!

Careful now, someone will be along in a minute to whinge about feckless teachers lounging about not working and DRINKING on the taxpayer's dime...

I'm partial to a cocktail in the evening. Or two.

Disneyblue · 02/08/2021 19:26

Yes, except I also drink excessively during term time.

I’m an all-year-round drinker too. During term time ‘oh I’ve had such a stressful day I need a drink’ during the hols ‘well I am on holiday so why not have another drink?’

hels71 · 02/08/2021 20:11

You are not alone. I really fear for my liver over the summer. Especially at the moment as I am away on holiday when I believe calories and possibly even units don't count....

Foxymoxy68 · 02/08/2021 20:18

For ‘most evenings’ read every bloody night haha! I think I’ve had one dry day so far since 21st July…..🙈🙈🙈 Managed to abstain tonight though (so far!) as the grandchildren are here for a sleepover and don’t know what a lie in is. The thought of a headache when they awake at the crack of dawn is enough to drive me to drink! 🍺 🍷 And I’ll feel so proud of myself for entertaining them all day tomorrow that a nice G and T will deffo be in order tomorrow night!
Ah well, as they say in Scotland, yer a lang time deid!

Definitely not alone.

Something happens to my brain in the summer

All it wants and needs are cocktails

FoodieToo · 02/08/2021 20:22

Oh yes here too !! And many of my colleagues are the same ! It's the holidays !!!

CarpeVitam · 02/08/2021 22:53

Oh yes! 🥂 😀

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/08/2021 22:54

I only drink one day a week in term time (Friday). Holidays I am like a proper lush!

Cherrysoup · 02/08/2021 23:51

You’re not alone. Have had gin, rum, vodka and wine tonight. I’m not driving tomorrow so have let loose!

QueenofLouisiana · 02/08/2021 23:55

I’m drinking less now than I did in lockdown. I drank every night during the first one and too much during this year’s as well.

However, yes I do generally drink more. The delight of pouring a cold white wine and drinking it with lunch is just perfect. (Although that could be due to having more than 20 minutes for lunch!)

I really embrace day drinking in the holidays. It's the way forward.

MuddyStiletto · 03/08/2021 09:38

I think if anyone has earned a drink you lot will be at the top of the list
Enjoy!

Yep!! I try not to drink at all during term times, but the last few weeks of this year have nearly killed me. Holidays, however! Wine

I'm out for a run this morning though...

nailsathome · 03/08/2021 23:55

We're trying to drink less this summer but the gin just calls "drink me" all of the bloody time!

Wine is definitely a good teacher gift IMO!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/08/2021 00:00

I'm a teacher. And I don't like wine.

But I bloody love a glass of pernod and black or baileys or cider.
