Recommend me an evening away with DH in Midlands?

My mum has offered to have the kids over night so we can have an evening in hotel / dinner / drinks etc.

We are in south Derbyshire, up to about an hour and a half away I think. Open to city, town or country pile options. No budget as such but would rather not spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds.

Any ideas?

Me and DH had a lovely stay in Ironbridge
last month.

It helped that the weather was amazing but we had a fabulous relaxing day enjoying walking along the river and dipping in to nice local pubs along the way.

In the evening we had a few drinks at the Malthouse sitting in the outside marquee while a DJ played. Then we had an amazing meal at Pondicherry, the best Indian meal we’ve had in a long time!

We’re planning on going back very soon.

Hampton Manor is lovely

York is stunning, if you want a beautiful hotel, Hazelwood Castle is just off the m1/and junction and is stunning

Lincoln is lovely

Leeds has a fab mix of galleries, shopping and nightlife

Manchester...we stayed in a hotel on the canal called Castle something, not far from a restaurant called Albert's shed which is lovely. It is walking distance from the MOSI or whatever its called now

Birmingham is lovely for a night out, theatre, food etc. There are some lovely restaurants off Broad Street by the canal

Don't discount Leicester and Nottingham, loads to do and not too far away.

We are being a bit boring and going to Nottingham! It's in a couple of weeks time so not much availability, but we know Nottingham a bit and think we will enjoy it!).
